Outwell tent - Nevada or Explorer

I want another tent to add to the collection.

I've been to a tent show today and was torn between the Outwell Nevada and the Outwell Carolina. Thought the Carolina was better suited size wise but then came home and read reviews about the mesh doors ripping on velcro, the groundsheet lifting up on one side and the sleeping area being draughty.

So then thought ok, I'll get the Nevada M. Its mainly going to be me and DD, sometimes DH as well.

We've got a camper van as well and to be honest on most camping excursions we'll use that, but if we're away for a week or so it gets a bit cramped in the van. Only one person can get dressed at a time, etc and not much space to put bags of clothes. So I want something easy to put up by the side of it, but not too big.

I think the Nevada is maybe a bit too big to be honest but the Explorer is more expensive. Why's it more expensive when its smaller? Is it because of the "free" kids' room?

Also how easy is it to put up a tunnel tent which has fibreglass poles? Our large Outwell tunnel tent has steel/aluminium poles on the upright bits which clip into fibreglass poles along the roof, but these are both fibreglass poles throughout.

Why not get a drive away awning instead? That's what we had with our camper, you can have the bedrrom in it or without and it is fab. Loads of extra space, plus you can just unhook it if you go anywhere?

I have to say we are prob going to buy the nevada M after looking at it today, but I imagine at most places you'll get charged for 2 spots as it's mighty big to stick next to a camper rather than a tent alone?

We had 4 adults and 2 children sat in it (on chairs) today at the showroom with a big storage unit in it and we had plenty of room - we didn't even know each other lol!

I've got a Kyham Motordome awning and I don't like it much. I find it a faff lining the van up to clip it back on and its too small to sit in.

Mmmmm not sure what to do, hubby wants to go camping up to the Lakes and he hates the van, says it takes too long to get anywhere in it so maybe we'd end up using the tent quite a bit by itself as well.

I was hoping to avoid the 2 pitch fee by arguing that as my van is only a small VW camper rather than a big motorhome its not bigger than a 4x4. Plenty of people with 4x4s and a big tent who pay one pitch.

Hmm, I doubt they will go for that though, as people with a 1/2 man tent will still pay same price as someone with the nevada!

We had a diff drive away from that, loads of room...........let me have a think what we had!!
