As the title says? We havent taken the kids before and the tents only been used on private land but we're thinking of just going for it now but are a little worried its too big. I think it should be ok as its an average size large tent if that makes sense at 740x280

Depends where you are going. In France, for example 10mx10m is considered a very generous pitch. The best thing to do once you have identified the site you want to visit is to ring and tell them the size of your tent so that they can either reassure you, allocate you a bigger pitch or suggest you go elsewhere.

That said 7x3m tent is nothing compared to some of the monsters around!

Thats what I thought

Seems huge to me. My kind of camping meant you had to carry the thing from place to place

tis a bit more than 7x3 because we've got an extension but I'm sur eit will still be fine

It doed depend, very few places would worry about your tent though. It fits caravan and camping guidlines.

I find palces such as haven have smaller pitches and (oh drat ) cannot take our big tent but even if we do want to go soemwhere that cannot fit you on a astandard pitch theyc an often ehlp- eg we're going to th IoW in the sumemr and our tent (we are a family of 6) is big so the site is just placing us on a motorhome pitch instead. have IME won't debate but otherwise you should be OK.

I suually just email the site and take the printed out OK email with me on a JIVC basis if I need to ask to be moved.

Camping and Caravanning Club sites give a standard 5m x 9m pitch.

Forest Holidays (campsites within the Forestry Commission estate) allow 6m x 8m per pitch (although there are no marked pitches).

What can be annoying is that pitches are often rectangular and large tents are often more of a square/round shape. This is why we have a tunnel tent rather than a dome tent.

yes ours is tunnel 7x3 but the extension goes on the side so is actually wider (not measured) but wouls still fit within those dimensions

thanks people

Ive never used this tent (dh has) and we put it up in our garden today. It didnt fit our lawn whoops
