Campervan - how to make the pop-up roof space toddler safe?

Hi
We plan to campervan with our nearly 2yr old this spring/summer but need ideas how to make the top bunk safe for her to sleep (so she can roll / stand up). So some kind of secure gate??? Or should we go for an awning? Is so, what's the best one (lightweight perhaps).
We have an '82 VW.
Thanks!

Hi - we have a VW Type 2 1972 - had the option of using the bunk bed in the westy roof - but opted for a Khyam awning instead. When we just had one child - we managed to all sleep inside on the bed and fitted in a travel cot. However- with number 2 on the way the awning seemed the safest way forward.

Hope this helps!

our 'parcel shelf' has a sort of safety net. depends how adventurous your 2 year old is. a determined 2 year old would definitely be able to fling themselves over it.

Hi
Roxy - did you use a standard travel cot? ours completely fills the space making it hard to get in and out, plus blocks the fridge. ... and the door doesn't completely close. (was hellish when we tried last year!). Would really like her to sleep above us in the pop-up space.
Bariatric - did the net come with the camper? If not can you tell me where you got ot from?
Thanks

We used a standard travel cot - and it took up all the room - but during the day we moved it outside as a play pen.

yes it came with the camper but you could definitely fit one yourselfs.
