Am so happy to have found this topic

I'm off for a (child and DP free) camping weekend with my friends in about 6 weeks. I really can't wait!

Am also hoping to take 18mo DD on her first camping trip later in the year. Not sure whether to do a long weekend or just sod it and go for a whole week?

Am stupidly excited , haven't been camping since June last year!

It's great you're so enthusiastic

I'm off camping on Wednesday night (weather permitting) with dp to stay behind a pub in Teesdale. It's beautiful in that area. Just hope it isn't too wet? We've stayed behind this pub before and it's only £5 per tent per night, the loos are open with hot running water, always a bonus!

We'll take the big tent away with the boys...and possibly the dog...later in the year. Thinking the lake district and Muker, we went there last year and it's lovely.

Curiousmama · 22/03/2010 11:13

We're going in August to a Festival to camp with 2 of our 3 dc's. Have never camped with them before (apart from in the garden )

saggyhairyarse · 22/03/2010 12:34

We're going to Holland in the Easter holidays and the Isle of Wight in the May school holiday.

BariatricObama · 22/03/2010 12:36

dd was 18m when we first took her camping she LOVED it. first night is always nightmare with toddlers but after that it is great.

we are off to teh highlands at easter

PavlovtheCat · 22/03/2010 12:37

I absolutely cannot tell you. As it will advertise it, and I like it because it is quiet!

I will be going mostly in Devon and Cornwall though, either in woodland or by the sea. Shared water supply and a communal toilet block only. Lovely!

Slubberdegullion · 22/03/2010 12:40

Glad you found us here Bird. mn campers are lovely.

My list so far is
North Wales (easter - but not in a tent, am going on a campsite reccy though)
North wales (mayday bh)
North Wales (whit bh)
North Wales (august)
North Wales (august)

We like variety and seeing new things in our family.

BariatricObama · 22/03/2010 12:42

lol@ slubber. why not go crazy and head to south wales?

Slubberdegullion · 22/03/2010 12:47

oooh no. Even mid Wales is a step too far.

Birdistheword · 22/03/2010 12:55

Do you love rain then slubber?

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 22/03/2010 13:01

You say that but the weather is always kind to us on the lleyn. I only heard on classic fm this morning that some weather forecasting peeps (not the met office) have predicted the first two weeks in august in the uk are going to be scorchers.

[jinxes it]

PavlovtheCat · 22/03/2010 13:09

I love camping in the rain. I have a SoulPad and the sound of the rain battering against the canvass at night is just lovely.

PavlovtheCat · 22/03/2010 13:10

slubber typical about the weather in August. They are the first two weeks I am back at work

BariatricObama · 22/03/2010 13:13

pavlov - devon/cornwall in august is hellish whatever the weather!

Birdistheword · 22/03/2010 13:14

I can cope with rain, but wind is another matter entirely, our tent was ok but saw a few others fly past us. Not fun.

PavlovtheCat · 22/03/2010 13:15

aha! not where we go one place books up quickly but we know that...it does not get too busy, they limit the number of people, and one place...no cars allowed, no parties, no stereos...bliss

BariatricObama · 22/03/2010 13:15

i quite like a bit of wind, gets rid of the midgies

pavlov - you are dangerously close to being smug!

PavlovtheCat · 22/03/2010 13:17

When it is windy and too rainy, our friends all come in to our tent and we chill out - it is all swathes on the ceiings and throws on the floor!, the wind is not a problem, it just sways gently

PavlovtheCat · 22/03/2010 13:17

apologies

troutpout · 22/03/2010 13:35

So far i am thinking...
Easter : camp somewhere local if it isn't too cold..peak district
Whitsun : we are in scotland (muir of ord) not in tent though..in lodge
Summer: Camping in county Durham , then on the Lleyn peninsular (i need a nice campsite near whistling sands Slubber...do you know one?). Then we will try and fit in a much loved site near betsy coed and then i am at this festival at the end of August. Then the plan is to fit in another local visit in the peaks in Sept.

Slubberdegullion · 22/03/2010 13:42

trouty this is where we are staying at whit. It's basic but does have on site cafe. 10 mins from porth oer.

I'll feedback further after my easter reccy on other sites.

BariatricObama · 22/03/2010 13:43

that looks nice. why are campsite websites so bad though!

PavlovtheCat · 22/03/2010 13:59

trout i would advise you not to advertise that festival...at least, not til we get our tickets! it look fantastic.
