Am so happy to have found this topic

I'm off for a (child and DP free) camping weekend with my friends in about 6 weeks. I really can't wait!

Am also hoping to take 18mo DD on her first camping trip later in the year. Not sure whether to do a long weekend or just sod it and go for a whole week?

Am stupidly excited , haven't been camping since June last year!

Pembrokeshire where we get a disocunt for being regulars (becuase site owner is fab, we've only been once pmsl)- campfires ahoy

IoW as a parental treat in summer hols

Possibly Forest ofm dean next month if we can manage cost

bilblio · 23/03/2010 17:26

Seriously considering the festival after looking at the site last night. Knitting and Gruffalo. What more could a girl want. It's only just over an hour away. I was thinking last night to leave it till next year when DD will be 4. But if I get my way DD will have a baby brother or sister by next year.

A girly weekend might be nice, DP doesn't always get into the spirit of things. But a whole weekend camping with a 3yo might be too much.

Slubberdegullion · 23/03/2010 17:32

This thread needs to bifurcate.

All those who are sodding off overseas to have simply lovely times in the sunshine with practically no clothes on and worries about suntan lotion reacting badly with the mosquito repellent can go and compare notes over there ->

the rest of us who are holidaying at home (AND SUPPORTING THE POOR POOR UK ECONOMY) can go over

MisSalLaneous · 23/03/2010 17:39

Slubber.

Oh, I like this - I quite like pretending I'm not going to Spain/France/guaranteed sunshine because I've got a conscience and wants to support the UK economy instead. Yes indeed, that is the real reason. I just didn't want to say it in case all you lot felt bad.

MisSalLaneous · 23/03/2010 17:41

uhm, pretending knowing

Of course this is something I know. Because I care.

Fennel · 23/03/2010 17:44

We will probably go to the same places as Pavlov - low key sites in Devon and Cornwall without the crowds or loads of facilities.

And we might go to Scotland (DP's choice) or France (my choice) or possibly Holland (dd2's choice) in the summer. I'm hoping either that the Scotland plans fall through, or that it'll be a scorching summer up there.

And, besides all the lovely quiet low key sites, we will go to one tacky campsite with theme park (Woodlands, in Devon) to please the kids.

Slubberdegullion · 23/03/2010 17:49

lol @ MisSal

Sometimes I like to pretend in my head I am going to France this year.

Sometimes when I am actually in North wales I pretend I am in France and send the dds off in their swimmers and flip flops to the shop to buy 'quatre pain au chocolate sil-vous-plait monsieur'.

One day...

one day....

Clarissimo · 24/03/2010 09:42

PMSL Sal/ Slubber. Yep its the economy of the UK rather than my pesonal economy keeping me ehre

(Sal it's ds's birthday coming up isn't it? Just ordered Bs a scutterbug, he's so grown up now! Happy Birthday to your ds)

MisSalLaneous · 24/03/2010 10:02

Thanks Clarissimo (feels odd calling you this! ) Yes, I can't believe how grown up R is already. Mind you, I am tired as hell most of the time, so I know something happened over the last two years... What's a scutterbug? Those tricycles? If so, bet he'd love it - I've just tried searching, and they look brilliant. Happy birthday to him too! Don't have a gift for him yet. Am a bad mother.

Clarissimo · 24/03/2010 10:27

Yep the trike, he's disocered the back garden and it is walled in so got him a scutterbug (folds too for camping), me a garden chair and praying for a dfew nice days at least

MisSalLaneous · 24/03/2010 10:44

Ooh, nice idea re camping too - didn't think about that! I've never seen those, but having searched now, they all have excellent reviews. And yes, wish this horrid weather would just go away now. We've got a couple of trips booked, and dh not entirely convinced about the mid May one (that is a major understatement). I therefore need full on sunshine. That's not too much to ask, surely?!

Clarissimo · 24/03/2010 10:47

I pulled up netweather report for the year ahead (up to end June), semed to be wet for now and April, slightly above aberage May, wet June and flooding in someplaces

Eeek!

So may should be good, DH finished Uni in 4 weeks so looking to book for weekend after Bank Hol; Whitsun we're in Pembrokeshire which is a basic site but nice enough to be worth it whatever the weather.

Your DH just needs good waterproofs then he'll be fine. And a canopy on the tent fi you don't have one, we've spent many hours sitting under the canopy watching everyone else get miserable shut up indoors.

MisSalLaneous · 24/03/2010 11:16

Ooh nooo!

I've always wondered about canopy. As most trips are short and we've got a big tent for just the 3 of us (5-man Vango Orchy), I reckoned we can sit in the extra "room". But I guess it might get claustrophobic after a while. Hmm, will do a quick search - I'm itching for camping stuff anyway.

Also need new camping chairs, as ours are dirt cheap starter ones when we first wanted to try camping out. It's awful though and gives me backache.

Dungboot · 15/06/2012 10:18

I know this is an ancient thread but I am losing my mind searching online for the perfect holiday for DH, two boys (5 and 2 in July) and me of course! We can fly out of Belfast/Dublin and are slightly nervous of the whole mobile home/Canvas camp thang or are we being silly? Want somewhere fantastic for the boys with some activities, somewhere not too hectic for us and the chance for some 'authenticity' ...i.e. a little walk around a nice village and a dip in the sea....! Any recommendations for Portugal, France and have just been told by a friend of a friend about Sanguli in northern Spain did you enjoy your holiday there Milliways??Help please!!!

OfCourseImAlwaysRight · 17/06/2012 22:56

dungboot- i would advise to go down the canvas/mobile home route. we did last year and loved it! we went to duinrell in holland, was fab. theme park and swimming complex on site.

really cant say enough how much we loved it. we done ferry-harwich to the hook of holland then half hour drive to the site.
we payed £300ish for a week inc return travel :)
look it up.

hz · 18/06/2012 19:53

If you want to see some indepth info on some good campsites, the sort with campfires rather than 'entertainment', have a look at www.yellowfieldscamping.co.uk particularly good for those of you in the South West!

Milliways · 04/07/2012 18:53

Just seen this Dungboot!

We loved Sanguli! DS was thrilled with Portaventura being so close, you can walk to the beach, walk to the station and get a train to Barcelona and walk to the shops and restaurants. Site itself was immaculate and the van great (We went with Thomson Alfresco in a 3 bed van. Going back with them this year but to Prairies de la mer

sagenod · 09/07/2012 04:48

Oooh Milliways I used to work there outs self I live very near :) It's a great camping, but heaving in the high season. Have a lovely time!

Milliways · 09/07/2012 16:15

Thanks :) (We have seen it in full swing as stayed up the road with Canvas, but should be great for a 16yr DS!)

Lucycat · 09/07/2012 16:26

We are heading down

in 2 weeks we shall be there - Euros bought, sun cream sorted just need to do a bit more phoning re breakdown / insurance and we're off.

tbh I'm already mentally there Grin despite not finishing school until next Friday.

Milliways · 09/07/2012 19:18

Wow - looks lovely :)

cheerup · 10/07/2012 06:35

I know its an old thread but I've finally made a decision so want to share (before I change my mind again and DH divorces me)... we're off to L'hirondelle at the end of August.

If it ever stops raining here, might also try to get a night at Freshwinds

Lucycat · 11/07/2012 12:31

ooh L'Hirondelle looks lovely - I've bookmarked t to show dh as a possibility for next year. It ticks all our boxes - love the river at the side of the site too.

Lots of Dutch tents I notice on the 360 show Smile

Lucycat · 11/07/2012 12:40

although French campsites of any decent quality are not cheap are they? We shall be paying about 65 euros a night - but that does mean we don't have to take a table, parasol, BBQ, fridge etc which frees up car space hugely and for something similar at L'hirondelle would be 59 euros. I just hope our sites are worth it Smile

Two years ago we stayed here at Les valdes in the Dordogne and paid 250 euros for one of their 300m2 pitches with private facilities - now they are 350e for a week! Mind you it was lovely - just not the weather Sad

cheerup · 13/07/2012 21:50

Have done it and finally booked now they've said that we'll be able to use our Cobb so long as not in the woods. Did waiver when I clicked on the Domaine de Massereau link though. V v nice... maybe next year!
