Packing a vauxhall zafira

We are first time campers with 3 kids and a big tent how on earth do we get everything into our zafira without (at the moment) a roofbox or trailer. We don't want to splash out on one in case we hate the camping but don't want to not pack essentials due to lack of space and then hate it anyway

Is it the estate or the MPV? We can get everything for a camping holiday in the boot if we put all three kids in teh "middle seats", pushed as far forward as their legs can manage.

Big stuff in first, sleeping bags at kids feet, lots of shoving works well for us!

It's the MPV - I just can't see how there will be room for clothes after tent, cooker, table, chairs etc. Are you really strict with what kids take ? My 14 year old will want a dozen books, makeup, several pairs of shoes etc etc. Any tips on what to / not to take ?

we have a zafira, three kids and a big tent! last year we tried without a roof box but gave up. i got cramp due to no leg space and the girls legs were near touching their heads. in the end we invested in the box and now have a trailer. trailer is because we got sick of unpacking and packing. now we just leave everything in it! last year our girls were under 1, 2 and 3. we also took duvets etc. this took up the room. whatever u take and pack, practice.... we spent so much time trying to pack up and always went over the'out' time because we were squeezing stuff in and chasing small people chaos! but gave other campers a giggle!!

I hate to break it to you but we have a zafira and when we camp we still need a roofbox and we only have 2 dc. The dc are allowed whatever they can fit in a average sized rucksack and a board game! I pack the clothes!

Looks like we might have to invest in a roofbox but they don't come cheap do they - anyone out there who can fit it all in with an essentials kit list ?

We have a Zafira, two children, a big tent and we hire a roof box (about £50).

Millimat · 10/03/2010 21:41

You can get second hand roof boxes cheap though? It's worth the outlay as lots can be left in the roof box like a trailer for storage.

We should probably buy one now, but then we'd have to store that, and the rental place fits it for us. Definitely worth looking into for a first-time camper, in case there's no second time.
