Sandy Balls?

We're off camping with some friends this summer. It'll be four adults and six kids (not all sharing a tent.) I know this place has been going for years so I presuming it's a good place. Anyone been there recently and what do you think? It's been left to me to sort out where we're going so need to get it right!

I'd imagine sandy balls would be rather uncomfortable, is there a local chemist?

overmydeadbody · 08/02/2010 22:42

I have never heard of it, is it a camosite?

When choosing a campsite you need to know what you want out of your campoing experience. Do you just want a base to erect your tent and sleep in, eat and wash at or do you want to spend your whole camping holiday never leaving the site with access to 'entertainment' etc?

deepdarkwood · 08/02/2010 22:42

Check the pitches available when you want to go - they only hire out grass pitches over high summer, apparently. We're skipping it as we didn't want to pitch tents on all weather pitches...

deepdarkwood · 08/02/2010 22:42

It is meant to be fab, though - but defn at the uber luxurious, and with the price tag to go with it.

fluffles · 08/02/2010 22:43

i've never camped there - we go in the autumn in a chalet-thingy.. it's a great place.

Curiousmama · 08/02/2010 22:44

I thought it was a joke

Hope you have a good time.

That really is the name. My 10 year old son nearly wet himself with laughter when I told him! It's in the New Forest. It does seem quite pricey thats why I wanted to here from anyone who'd been there!

I went last year. Prices have gone up too much for me this year
you need to find out which area you will be in as some pitches are gravel, some are grass.
Is nice, good base to see the New Forest.
Pool can get crowded, and sometimes you have to queue.
There is a Co op in Fordingbridge about a mile away, ok for essentials.

'Sandy balls' (sniger) Is there a sweaty testicles somewhere? A mingy fanjo?

Curiousmama · 08/02/2010 22:54

Just looked on the site it looks lovely and not that expensive really? And I'm a skinflint

I'll bookmark it.

I hope you have a lovely time playing on the sandy balls.

Flutterbye · 09/02/2010 09:38

We camped in their field in Aug about 2 years ago, wouldn't go back again I'm afraid, far too busy and crowded for us, pitches not special. Good for pool, soft play area, shop and play area, but we'd go for a smaller site next time and visit a local pool, etc.

dreamingofsun · 09/02/2010 10:48

i live fairly near there - so can tell you about area but not site. fordingbridge has a park i used to go to regularly by the river with a pool for toddlers and play area - nice for chilling and pic-nicks. you are on the edge of the new forest and about 40 mins from the coast - lots of lovely beaches - bournemouth/poole and quays etc. about 20 mins from salisbury - lovely old city.

MamaVoo · 09/02/2010 12:08

I can't tell you what it's like now, but we often camped there when I was a child and my brother and I loved it.

wohmum · 09/02/2010 21:41

Our friend's went last year and hated it - too regulated, too busy, not the relaxing family holiday they planned at all.

They tend to go for more natural sites, but with a few kids they wanted somewhere with entertainment and provision for rainy weather - but had a thoroughly miserable time
