Camping with small children by train

Last year we drove to France and Switzerland camping. We had a great time but if possible would love to go on holiday by train. Has any one camped in Europe with small children using the train? We don't really want to go to touristy locations if possible. I would be greatful for any help or advice.

Years ago we put the car on the sleeper train to get down to the Dordogne. Worked fine till the morning when we nearly didn't wake up. Opened the door of the couchette to see everyone else dressed and ready to go!Had to scramble into clothes as everyone else was calmly getting off, then leapt off - leaving ds2s favourite teddy - my heart sinks even as i think about it now. The stories we told about how he'd get to live in france and learn to speak french. Ds2 still doesn't like to think about it - he's 28. It was his first experience of grief. The train worked well but was expensive. Camped with Eurocamp which suited us but was probably not what you were thinking of but your post brought back the horror of that morning.
