Am looking for a good campsite, DS will be 5 so by beach & with pool. Ideally walkable to small town. Prob able to rent tent as quite like the idea of flying rather than driving. I don't want it to be really really noisy but kids around for DS to team up with. Any ideas?

Have you thought about Ile de Re? Very flat, everyone cycles everywhere. I went to the Interlude site with Canvas. Very busy site but quiet after about 11ish.

We also had a lovely time at Moulin de la Pique in the Dordogne, but it's a bit more remote and no beach.

We stayed at Le Tranche Bel with Eurocamp. The DCs made loads of friends as it was a real family site.

Ile de Re tis lovely and has the most sunnshine in France, just avoid at all costs late July and AugusT.

chocolateshoes · 02/01/2010 20:33

prob is as a teacher that is exactly wjen we'd be going. Went to Ile de Re for a few years many yrs ago & loved it & would like to go back. Want a campsite where I can hire a tent so we can fly & bike rather than drive. But as far as I can see most of the sites have mobile homes

I know there's a Eurocamp one there because I looked at it last year. We ended up moving so missed our hol but it's somewhere i would definately be interested in going.

this site is lovely

I stayed easter 2009 for 5 days, my dad has stayed several times out of season in September - at easter they heat the pool and pull over the cover so it is nice to swim.

We hired bikes from the site aswell, the daughter in law of couple that own site speaks fluent English and is very pleasant.

TBH I would get the trian from London to Paris and then Paris La Rochelle if I go again as you can take as much luggage as you want and prices are not that more expeniive than flying to La Rochelle by the time you add on all the extras. It maybe worth think about??

Just be aware that french Parisians cycling is exciting!! in the summer.

Canvas do tents at Interlude. Train/fly to La Rochelle and then it's 40ish euros for a taxi to the site. Cars are absolutely superfluous!

Soleil Plage.
On the Dordogne.
Lots of children
Kids loved it last summer.

Gingerbear · 02/01/2010 22:31

Fly to Limoge
1 Hour drive
