Caravans that arent white boxes

Just come back from camping, which has been brilliant but we only went for a couple of nights and seemed to spend all the time either putting up the tent or taking it down (as I like to take everything bar the kitchen sink). I really want a caravan, loads of lovely memories of having one as a kid, but DH doesnt like the standard ones. We both love the T@B ones, but they are hideously expensive and there doesnt seem to be much of a second hand market. Are there any others like that out there??

Have you seen the Dethleffs Campy? It looks pretty funky but I think it might be tiny.

If you're loaded, you could buy an Airstream!

Ah ... buy a white box. You won't regret it. It's the memories you'll make and the crap you put in it (not literally) that make a caravan. Stop being such a snob .

And i still think Airstreams look as if they've been put together by Wallace and Grommit.

We have a white box. Have had it for about 3 years. It's great, feels like luxury after camping for so many years it's very useful for a spare room too when the IL's come over!

thats great, thanks loads for the ideas... I shall have a look at those. And its not me whos the snob, its him indoors with ideas above his station. I would be more than happy to just have a nice white box but if it means I get one, I have to pander to him a bit. i did see the airstreams, 30,000 a pop though for one thats been done out. wowsers.....
its the upholstery I object to in most of the the bog standard ones, why does it always have to be brown........

Ok, next question caravanners, so if I can persuade him down the usual white box sensible route, what size would you recommend we be able to tow with a Merc c class ( company car before I get called snobby again . Hopefully that was my first ever smiley thing. I shall be impressed if it works.......

Noooo - my snob comment was a joke - i'm nice really....(would love a dinky cool caravan but my 20 year old scruffy old lady does for now).

We have a 13 foot (5 berth) one which is fine for me, DH and 2DS (8&6) - but won't be fine forever. If your C Class is petrol i suspect you could go a fair bit bigger than that.

Oh ok, thats good to know, its a diesel. So we should be able to go for one with a seperate bedroom then, need a 3/4 berth, just us and the 2 year old. I really like those Eriba Puck ones, they are smashing, just what I was looking for.

Only problem with a fixed bed caravan is that you only have one seating area during the day. We have one with twin lounges - you can leave the back one as a bed during the day if you want or turn it back into seats if you have people visiting or your little one want somewhere to play and you want to relax with a small glass of whatever

If it is the upholstery to which you object, why not buy a cheap as chips second hand caravan and pay someone to reupholster in a more gay fashion (I am trying to reclaim the use of gay to its original meaning. How's it going?)

hi,i tow a 23footer ABI behind a passat 2litre..no problem.
Mine is 20 years old and still goin strong. There are loads of 2nd hand caravan places. Cheadle hulme...northern caravans, glossop caravans and there is one a Stoke too.
