Help me convince DH we need another tent...

We currently have 3 tents for various camping needs. However we now have DD to consider!

For ordinary camping we're fine, taking our big Outwell - we all fit in nicely with all our equipment, but it's too big and cumbersome for a festival. For festivals we used to take our smaller outwell, however this being a 3 man tent we can't fit me, DH and DD along with the few bits of equipment and clothes we need for the festival. We have a medium sized 4 man tent that is big enough for us and the festival... however the 2 bedrooms are at opposite ends of the tent and not joined by a removable wall. All three of us can't fit in one bedroom. DH says it'll be fine and he'll sleep in one bedroom and me and DD can sleep in the other.

BUT, I'll miss our quiet whispered nighttime and early morning conversations, not to mention miss his body heat . So I would like to add another tent to our collection. Just a cheap 5 man vango that has one large bedroom and a good sized porch. How can I persuade him to part with £70 for this new tent?!

Oh just buy it and hide it and then pack it and pitch it before he notices.

It's what I do.

lol Riven. Your response on all tent advice threads should now be "You obviously need a Bell tent"

FlamingoBingo · 10/08/2009 19:20

Mine too - all the threads I see about tents I have to sit on my hands so I don't say 'get a bell tent'

I am in love with ours and am desperate for some fairy lights to decorate it with!

Anyway, to be a bit more helpful - is there a tent you use rarely that you could sell? Sounds like your 3-man isn't very useful, or your 4-man that doesn't work the way you want it to?

My DH loves camping and nearly had an orgasm when I told him I wanted to go for the first time a few weeks ago

Can't . We're coming back from week long holiday in Pembrokeshire on 22nd. Just bad timing otherwise I would! Might pop down and see you all though - will head towards bell tents with twinkling lights on

Gert2a · 10/08/2009 19:29

Flamingo? Sell tents? Not sure I could part with them... but now you mention it, that could be just the compromise I need! However DH might see through the 'I'll sell the old ones on ebay' comment as he hears it regularly (guitars, mobile phones etc etc, all clogging up cupboards and the loft as I can't part with them/can't get off my bum and get them listed!).

Gert. Do you have time to sell it before you buy a new one? Give you a bit of an incentive?

So I will! What time are you all getting there? Wish DH didn't have to work on Sunday or we could camp for one night at least!

I am imagining striding purposefully for a prettily decorated bell tent and marching up to the woman who looks like she owns it and saying 'hello, are you Riven?'. And then getting a blank stare as I realise I'm at the wrong FoD campsite

Not sure I am brave enough to do camping on my own with the girls and lots of people I don't know (yet) even though I know they're very nice!

I am now imagining a field full of be-fairy-lighted bell tents with headscarfed ladies in wheelchairs and me standing in the middle shouting 'which one of you is Riven?'

Are you really in a wheelchair? How on earth do you manage to get the tent up?

I can do everything except get the pole up - I'm not strong enough to push the pole up on my own, and click the last section into place.

I meant to ask you something actually...but I'll make a new post in the hope other bell-tenters can help too!

Flamingo - your 'sell your old tents' has worked! Am now proud owner of brand new Outwell Oregon (bargain find on ebay!)

My other 2 tents are now listed on ebay.

Yay! I love a new tent!

Happy camping.
