Damn. Need to buy a new tent pole tomorrow but the tent is currently in Devon and

I don't have a clue what I'm doing.

Anyone know about these things?

DH is in Devon, and has broken a pole whilst putting it up. I'm going down there tomorrow evening. He says the tent is up, but he doesn't think it would stand much in the way of wind.

So I need to see if I can get a replacement.

I could ask him to measure the length, but a tape measure wasn't part of the essential kit...

Do I just need to find out the length? Or is it more complicated than that?

Where on earth would I find the length of the main pole in a Gelert Horizon 6? I've googled but so far to no avail.

What about Gelert customer services, give them a ring and I'm sure they'll be able to tell you the length. Most camping stores will do generic fibreglass replacement poles if you can't tget the exact of for the tent.

I would find an on line specialist retailer, phone them and beg for help.

Let's have a link of the tent and see if we can do it. Are we going to have to use Pi? I haven't had to use Pi for such a long time.

Gawd, d'you know, i didn't think of that And I was kind of guessing they'd be closed, it being after 6.30.

Anyway, I have just phoned them, and some chap answered immediately. I said "Oooh I didn't expect anyone to be there at this time!" He said "well, there isn't but I was just on my way out and thought I'd answer the phone, go on, how can I help?"

So I explained what the problem is, and he explained all about replacement sections, rather than buying a whole pole, and buying a rethreader to get the elastic back through. He couldn't get the spec to tell me the length but reassured me that most camping shops will do one, and mentioned a place just up the road from here, and told me who to speak to at Gelert tomorrow morning to get some specific advice.

And then we had a little chat about DH putting the tent up and me arriving tomorrow after all the hard work is done!

What a very very nice man.

And now I'm fairly sure I can just wait until morning without worrying.

I needed a pole for our tent and the manufacturers passed me on to tentspares who were extremely helpful on the phone and told me which one to get.

aw, what a LOVELY man he sounds. I adore camping shop staff, to a man they are all delightful and helpful.

I'm kind of gutted I don't have to do a tent pole sum though . Man I was pumped and ready to do some fancy Pi stuff.

Well I'd hate to spoil your fun

If you research the height and footprint of the tent, then measure the picture with a little ruler, then work out the angles, you could probably do it

I could even come back and tell you the answer tomorrow morning!
