Weekend camping close to home

Does anyone do weekend camping close to home?
We've just come back from a lovely site about 1/2 hour from home and it was fab. We went straight after work on Friday, had a full (sunny!) day yesterday and a leisurely pack up and back home this afternoon.
It was so relaxing just to be awayvfrom home without a long drive at the end of it.

Does anyone else do this , and can anyone recommend another site within 1/2 hour if west London for our next trip?

Well we have recently started doing this for weekends because a 2-3 hour drive after work on a Friday and then setting up the tent is no fun!

We are in Bristol so have done the Forest of Dean and will go to a recommended site near Cheddar when we have some sun.

Where did you go?

Here is supposed to be nice.

I plan to do this when we finally buy our first ever tent. DH has to work Sat mornings so I plan to camp less than an hour away Friday night with dd and our big dog. Then dh can join us when he finishes Sat. afternoon.

wohmum, we do - it's the only sort of camping we do lol!! half an hour to 45 mins on the road tops, and off we go

monkeypinkmonkey · 26/07/2009 22:36

Yes we do this, most we go is 40 mins. Last trip was 20 mins! DP wants to go further next time but my max is 1 hour! It make the most of your time and if your in a field it doesn't matter where you are.

We've only done 1/2 hour away camping so far But then we only get the chance to go for one night at a time at the moment so it makes sense to stay close to home.

For us, camping is about living simply and being together so it doesn't really matter if it's 1/2 an hour away or 1/2 a day away!

Hurley looks good and close to us in Wycombe - thanks

wohmum · 27/07/2009 23:29

Hi Mollieo and everyone else - we went to Hurley riversid , just the place you linked to .

its in a great location right by the Thames with lovely walks and loads of space . showers and toilets etc all good, but only a small shop. but for a weekend you can take everthing anyay.

Definitley recommend it.

am now of to look at some of the others on here for our next trip!

Saggy, can you recommend a good site in the Forest of Dean , as thats probably doable at a push on a Friday night.
