If he is anything like my DP he will chat for an hour to the person in the shop then end up buying a handfull of gadgets that he "must have" completley forgetting what i asked him to buy in the first place.

Did you specify what kind of lantern and what kind of blow-up mattress? If you did not, then you cannot get cross with him for coming back with varieties of those items which are not exactly what you had in mind. Some of us are only medium-level psychic.

i'd love a NASA lantern. Strongly suspect he may see what lidl have though. I'd be happy on my trusty self inflating mattress but he hates it so he can only blame himself if he buys a crap one.
