Lymington camp sites

I was planning to book my first camping trip in the UK since I was a girl guide (many years ago). I like the look of Hurst View but the latest review on UK campsites is dreadful. Has anyone been there recently (since May when that review was posted)?

Recommendations for alternative sites would be appreciated. Not bothered about activities but a functioning toilet and shower block is essential!

are you restricted to lymington? there's billions (well, a few) around the New Forest (v close to lymington) that are good

No just thought it was a nice area so wanted a campsite within striking distance.

you can do an area search on ukcampsite which you might find handy it has reviews of the sites too usually (well, most of them)

My ex's parents have had a caravan there for the last few years (a seasonal pitch) They moved it this year. Toilet and shower fascilities and issue. Would recommend heed fact that the local tourist information office dont recommend them or offer knowledge of their existance. But very good if you are there for the fishing ex is disappionted this year as fishing is nowhere near as good from the new site. Depends what you want from site and area. There are lots of other site but hurst view are good for late bookings - dont get so quickly booked up so it depends.

Thanks DEM. If it doesn't get booked up then I don't want to stay there! Am new to camping in this country and not sure I could cope with skanky toilet blocks. Last time I camped was in Namibia and the campsites were spotless.

Well had interesting incident when a mouse ran under the door and out the wall. But that was at least a year ago and they were going to do something about it. We have been moved to Beacon Hill Caravan park outside poole which it total luxary in comparision but not too much fuss. We also found it good for day trips (glastonbury abbey/stonehenge/ terracota army and dinosaur museum in dorchester/ durdle door and the forest etc). Hope you find somewhere. And enjoy.

we went it was great (about 10 mins drive from Lymington)and I think Shorefields is meant to be great. I know Lymo very well, CAT me if you want details.

Looks lovely Megglevache and I've very tempted by the thought of staying in one of the lodges. However they only do camping at their site in the Cotswolds and I've promised ds that we will be camping! Will add it to my list for next year though .

MollieO -mice are a common feature of the country side - you townie we occacionally get them here due to having fields at the back. It was a field mouse not a house mouse.

DOnt forget to go to the market on saturdays. Its great for a wander. And there is a lovely fish shop that is fresh caught that day. Tons to do and see!

Brockenhurst and other bits are great too but I lived that way for a year and was not into the tourisrty bits so much. Have a lovely trip.

Don't like mice in my house whether field or house! When we had cats one of them was always bringing in live field mice. We even had one living behind the washing machine in the utility room. Completely freaked me out until it was caught. We have fields near us (one road away) and I'm very happy to see them there!

I agree the markets are lovely but be prepared they get packed Lymington is so different to even five years ago- I lived there for years and now every other shop is a coffee shop or cafe chain- great for tourists of course.

I recommend Egans fish reastaurant- at the bottom of the town hill, The open air baths, go crabbing at Keyhaven over the bridge that is a prime spot and in low tide you can get your wellies on a forage under the rocks there. In lymington take a walk form the marina and walk all along the sea wall- that's a fantastic walk. :-)

The toilet block at Hurst is in a field with hedges at the back of it. It was the hole in wall that worried me more as it meant having a shower was chilly and hot water was unreliable. Hope you have fun where ever youdecide to go. There are lots of choices and variation of price. I would consider hurst if you cant get in anywhere else because I have tons of fun on the site and it very friendly and family orientated plus dogs are welcome if kept on lead so if you have a dog you could take with you. some sitge very funny about that. One of the biggest bonuses we found is that we could do most things by walking or on a bike rather then having to take a car everywhere.
