Silly Silly question. tent security

So what is the deal with security in a tent. Is it a case of if it's valuable don't leave it in a tent?

or is there some sort of lock you can buy for tents? I thought I saw someone say that they didn't like a particularly tent because they couldn't "lock" the rear door from the inside. I thought this was a bizare comment as I assumed that tents were not locakable and therefore the best course of action is not to leave any valuables unattended?

I didn't know you could lock a tent either. Seems like a bit of a waste of time, let's face it if someone wants to get it - a kitchen knife will do the trick.

For me anything valuable goes with us when we are out or is put in the sleeping compartment when we are there.

Don't leave valuables such as money, cameras in the tent. I've never had anything taken from a tent but for peace of mind we do have as part of our home contents policy an extra thing which is "personal items away from the home".

It covers us for 2k worth of items so worse case scenario and someone took the tent, slaaping bags, stove, clothes, etc we would be more than covered.

There tends to be a culture of trust with campers with a neighbourhood watch type system in place. But don't leave valuables in a tent, it just makes sense!
