We are virgin campers and are picking up our tent on Friday . We have bought loads of gear, mostly inspired by Mumsnet camping threads , so we think we have that bit sorted, but since we have never done this before can all you seasoned and expert family campers please give me your essential camping tips on avoiding any possible camping disasters and any tips on what you do for entertainment of an evening . We are going to take scrabble and a wind up radio . Anything else?...

Er Slubber

L'oreal bought the body shop love

Overmydeadbody · 15/07/2009 18:21

Is it Loreal who bought out Body Shop or am I confused again?

Overmydeadbody · 15/07/2009 18:22

lol at x post

Does Wiggletastic know about weeing into a nappy rather than go out in the rain in the middle of the night to go to the loo? Only if you have nappy-wearing dcs though - taking nappies just for yourself would be a step too far.

monkeyfacegrace · 15/07/2009 18:30

hey all, Well Im afraid the Body Shop brigade is here! I was assistant manager at a store before kids, and can promise you 100% that even though we were takan over by Loreal, Body Shop remains totally animal-testing free, as are ALL and EVERY ingredient in the products. This hasn't changed since 1991. So buy away!

Slubberdegullion · 15/07/2009 18:45

oh blimey what have I started?

sorry for being a cosmetics doofus.

Goober · 15/07/2009 19:18

Tesco Vitamin E wipes are equally luverly and only 27p right now! (Many packets stashed upstairs.)

monkeyfacegrace · 15/07/2009 19:28

Huh, Goober wow! Im off to Tesco!!
Slubbs, Im a bit of a body shop nazi Im afraid, but this once, I shall allow you to live

Goober · 15/07/2009 19:31

Ear plugs. Even if your fellow campers are impeccably behaved, the sound of snoring carries a mighty long way at night.

PandaG · 15/07/2009 20:18

eye mask as well as ear plugs. prevents the being woken at sunrise by the light.

clothes pegs for drying towels etc on the guys

antibac wipes for table etc

Surfermum · 15/07/2009 20:28

Freeze a pint of milk, it'll double as a cool block while it defrosts.

Take a plastic carrier for the shower block. Handy to put things in to avoid them falling in the wet on the floor.

Flip flops or crocs (if that way inclined are very useful for easily slipping on and off when going in and out of the tent (or areas you don't want shoes in.

wiggletastic · 15/07/2009 21:19

Flip-flops - check
Anti-bac wipes - check
Clothes pegs - check
Ear plugs - check, check, check! (DH is a prize winning snorer so I wear them every night anyway )

Just wondering now if it is possible to get another roof-box on top of the new roof-box we have just purchased to put all this in!!!

No, a trailer's next !

wiggleoffonhols · 15/07/2009 22:28

I think you could be right Surfermum. I think camping will test my packing capabilities severely. I am a terrible over-packer. I had to empty my shoes (lots of) out of my case at Palau airport on my honeymoon and pack them in a box before they would let me on the plane.

bunnyrabbit · 16/07/2009 09:02

Yep we're using a trailer for the first time this year..... either that or we have to leave the baby at home!

bunnyrabbit · 16/07/2009 09:02

PMSL at shoe smuggler!
