Please share your clothing checklists

First family camping trip coming up. One week, summer holidays, SE England.

I think we've got the equipment list sussed, so now I'm beginning to ponder clothing. Can anyone share the definitive clothing list for two girls, aged 4 and 7. Both dirt magnets and keen on tree climbing, den manufacture etc.

I'm thinking in terms of a couple of pairs of trousers that they will wear to death on site, plenty tops/T-shirts, 2 or 3 decent jumpers (one to wear at night), 2 sets warm pyjamas, a couple of presentable outfits for going on day trips, beach gear, wellies, trainers, waterproofs. Does that sound reasonable?

And where can I get nice warm pyjamas for them at this time of year? Not sure they've got anything snuggly enough.

I always go with the premis, one to wear, one thats wet and one spare.
Because it rains.

mmme insted of some snuggly jammies think layers for the kids, so tightish jammies then jumper, trackie botoms?

This is what I am taking for my 4yo ds for 1 week in often chilly, sometimes wet, sometimes sunny Norfolk.

Dressing gown

Crocs and croc wellies
UV suit
Sun hat/warm hat
Sun glasses
Pants and socks
Shorts x 3
Trousers x 2
T-shirt x 4
Long sleeve t-shirt x 2
Hoody
Towelling top

There is a washing machine on site though and that is working on me doing at least one wash.

Thanks for all those. Am getting my head together now.

I guess tights and long sleeve vest/close fitting top under normal pjs, plus jumper if needed, could be the way to go at night.

And yes, there is a washing machine on site and I should stop over-thinking this!!!

Don't forget to take pegs, then you can peg all your washing to your guys.

Last year dd was still in nappies, and after I'd pegged all her coloured terries to the tent ds didn't want me to take them down, he said the tent was covered in flags.

Don't forget to pack towels

How much bits would you suggest taking for 3 nights?

We're going friday and coming back Monday. One adult, a 3 year old and a 5 year old...

I have two boys one 3 next week and a four year old, both are muck monsters. I take the following one set for each

3 pairs of shorts
2 pairs of fold ups 1 linen and 1 denim
1 pair of jeans
5 tshirts
1 shirt
1 long sleved top
2 jumpers
1 zip up
7 sets of underwear
2 pjs
towling thow on
I pair of trainers
1 pair of crocs
1 swimsuit
1 rash vest
1 towels
1 waterproof
UV suit or wet suit
Sun hats

Need to review the DCs wardrobes and see what trousers they have that dry quickly and are not pale pink .

I camp with my 2 girls for 4 or 5 weeks every summer.They are now 10 and 8.

My eldest is a dirt magnet and can keep nothing clean for more than 5 mins.

I would suggest you assume you are in for a wet and muddy week and take alot of spares. Drying stuff in a tent or car (because campsite launderettes are always full and busy in wet weather) can be a bit of a bind and take ages.

Full length trousers are more hassle than they are worth in wet weather and dewy mornings/evenings. The botoms get wet and they take ages to dry. Cropped or 3/4 length trousers is the way to go with wooly socks and wellies if they complain their ankles are cold - but kids rarely feel the cold do they! My girls live in shorts unless it is really chilly. Shorts and wellies is a real cool campsite look in the rain. Their waterproof jackets are usually longer than the shorts so their clothes stay nice and dry and they dont need to to change.

I also make sure they take a few fleeces and 1 or 2 lighter weight hoodies/zip ups for inbetween days. Fleeces can be needed on breezy evenings and they dry quickly too.

Wellies, crocs and trainers is what they wear on thier feet depending what we are doing and the weather.

We went camping for 2 nights this weekend and I took for DD aged almost 3.

2 pairs of pants.
4 pairs of socks as they seem to get wet the quickest!
a swimsuit
one pair of trousers
one t-shirt
one long sleeved light top
one jumper
3 pairs of leggings (to walk back to campsite after beach)
one set of all in one jimjams
one vest to wear under jimjams.
dressing gown
sandals
wellies
coat
waterproof all-in-one.
hat.

For a week (as in 7 days) I would take in addition to the above:
another 2 pairs of pants (easily washable)
another 2 pairs of socks (as above)
one more pair of trousers
one more dress
one more jumper
one more set of jimjams

DD only has her clothes changed when she needs to get warmer/cooler/her clothes are wet. If they are just dirty, they stay on her. Unless she spills a whole bowl of spaghetti bolognaise down her!

Thanks Slummymummy. Good tip about the cropped trousers. Wouldn't have thought of that. I do remember the shorts/wellies combo from Guide camp, though. If it was REALLY wet, our Guider used to make us all change into swimsuits and wellies, for ease of drying!

I love the idea of camping for 4 or 5 weeks. Have visions of spending increasingly large proportions of the summer holidays away in our new "home".
