Where is a nice place in Essex to camp?

I am thinking of a small CL / CS near the beach in an unspoilt area (ie not southend on sea) with nice pub for lunch nearby. Just for a weekend.

I have heard people say that Essex is underated, but where exactly are the nice bits?

Any ideas? Thank you!

Mersea is lovely, but not sure what the camp sites are like. They cater well for caravans. I go there a lot for the day and love the beach. It is mainly pebble beach but there is a sandy patch.

Frinton is very quiet and peaceful...again I dont know if there is even a camp site there.

Kbear went to a campsite in Mersea last week and she said it was lovely. Don't know what it's called though. If I see her, I'll point her in this direction.

I think there are 2 sites, so it would be worth knowing.

Fen Farm, East Mersea

fen farm i the one kbear went to.

i used to go as a kid, and spent many summers there

across a field to the pub (great food) and two minutes down a footpath to the beach, two minutes by car to the country park

I stayed at Fen Farm last summer - only site to be on, but AVOID the chemical loos!!
