I've been to bracelands. It is a charmless campsite indeed. The loos are clean, but that is it's one redeeming feature.

D'you know I really hope that lots of people read that and don't come camping. I get fed up of people who buy a £10 tent in Tesco, set up a corrale of 14 windbreaks with their mates, fill it with Fosters and drink / sing / shout / swear all night.

There rant over....bloody Telegraph snobs. and as for the difference between caravans and campers being money - I just don't want to drag a anshed and sit inside watching TV at night!

ok so now rant over

Made me too. I fully agree with your sentiments Lucycat.

Just read article in Telegraph and am most amused.

I think the problem lies with this statement:

"...for the privilege of sharing a field with hundreds of people you have neither the energy nor the inclination to get to know?"

Well, see that's the thing, for me, meeting other campers is what makes it so great! I like the fact my kids make camping friends. I like the fact that friendly campers will come to your aid if they see you in a spot of bother (helping put each others tents up in high winds, lending mattress pumps when yours breaks etc etc).

No, I don't want to make a new bestfriend on holiday but you meet some really lovely people AND often larger families who 'know what it's like'

AlderTree · 17/05/2009 21:29

Yep Saggy I think you got it right there. The whole point of camping is not to sit on your own in a little bubble for the duration else how would you learn anything about the world if you never talk to anyone different.
