If you lived in the Reading/Berkshire area, where would you camp for the first time?

We obv. dont want to be too far away from home incase we hate it and I think a weekend is enough, do you agree?

I was thinking of Wellington Country Park but as its practically on our doorstep it does seem a bit silly, what do you think?

Have you any suggestions?

How far do you want to go?

I live in Basingstoke and we used to camp at weekends when I was a child. I remember going to a little place just outside Swindon which isn't awfully far from you. The site was in Cricklade.

Even if you don't go that far I think that is the direction I would go in - head towards the Cotswolds as there will be plenty of sites there.

Or what about Henley? There are several sites round there too.

Is Wellington Country Park really really close to you? My BIL and his family just bought a caravan and tried it out 10 miles from home. My SIL even went to work for one day from there! It was still a different experience.

Its about a 10 minute drive Niecie, if that.

Thanks for your suggestions

We had exactly the same idea for our first outing with a tent. We went to a site at Marlborough which was far enough away to be exciting but near enough to be able to go home if we hated it. (We stayed!)

(we're in Reading too)

humptyNdumpy · 01/05/2009 12:30

Did you like the site gerbil?

It was ok: we had a field to ourselves (but a bit of a trek to the loos)but there were a few static vans in the next one. It was called Church Farm.

If you want more facilities, we're going to try this one next: postern hill

TBH I'd just pop down to the New Forest, it only takes about 45 mins (ish?) from Bracknell. Wellington seems nice though, but at the New Forest it's just a further short drive to the beach

Which part of the new forset would you recommend LadyofWaffle?

That looks really nice gerbil

Ah, I don't think your idea is daft at all; we live in Fleet and hope to try a night under canvas next weekend to see how we get on and work out what extra kit we need for a longer stay !
Good luck wherever you choose !
