just so you feel better that has been fully booked for ages as i looked a good couple of months ago and was full then.

where in the country do you want to go?

here is a list of sites that allow campfires

Blackberry Wood books up years in advance. You practically have to get your name down as the children are born. Eweleaze Farm is our next best alternative.

they had a weekend the other week available but my dd got chicken pox and we couldnt go, weather was quite good that weekend to- typicaly.

prefer the south east as easy and quick, but to be honest i would travel for a good site

nannyl- thanks for link will have a look through that

janinlondon- where is eweleaze farm?

Eweleaze is just outside of Weymouth. Only open for 4 weeks in August, also books up well in advance.

www.eweleaze.co.uk/camping.htm

They've upped their fees quite a bit by the look of it from when I went a couple of years ago.

there's one in wales called ty parke but its term time only now I think, so depends on age of kids / your feeling as to time off

we're heading there in May.

I've been to Blackberry Wood a few times and if I remember correctly, the online booking becomes active 1 year in advance, so if you want to camp there in August '09 then you can start booking from end of August '08 (or something like that). It gets booked up so quickly but even when it shows that all pitches have been booked, whenever we've been, there have still been empty plots. Have you been there before? The showers put me off tbh as they're fairly basic but it's a beautiful site and the campfires are wonderful!

Peachy and Stripey both those sites look good, shame the one in wales is fully booked apart from school hols, i can't go until the summer term (student) and ds has a school week away which still waiting for final dates for, so wont be able to book that for a little (but am very tempted to )
ds is 10 and dd will be 3 in april so not too crucial they dont miss a week in school.

helsbels, no i havent been there before, choose it as its not too far from where i live and i want a campfire- have never had one before!!

Try to book up when you next can because it is a lovely campsite and unlike any I have been to before. Majority of the pitches are nestled in little clearings in the wood, so if you have a fairly normal sized tent and not a massive one like mine then you can pitch in your own little clearing and each pitch has their own fire-pit. As the afternoon wears on, you just see lots of swirls of smoke appearing throughout the wood! Your dc's would love it as the woods are great for them to explore but safe that you know they can't go anywhere.
The main downside for me, are the showers and toilets which are a bit basic for my liking but if you're not too bothered by that and the fact you'll struggle to get the kids to go to bed then it'll be great!

dylsmum1998 · 25/03/2009 12:40

hels that sounds just like i hope it would be, basic toilets think could cope with for all that for the children, sounds fantastic, maybe i should be naughty and have holiday in school time might be able to book something then
we only have a small tent well its bigger than our other one we used last year, but smaller than lots i have seen in campsites previously, we havent taken it out yet tho only bought it a month or so ago. will check measurements and see if would fit in a glade

dylsmum1998 · 25/03/2009 18:37
