Anyone been to Holland?

What's it like?
What was the weather like?

We're thinking of going in August to Koningshof, on the Stena Line Harwich to Hook of Holland. Any advice?

Thanks

We've been to Holland many times. The weather is very much like UK weather. Most people speak English, and the Dutch generally like English people. The beaches on that part of the coast are sandy and go on for miles.

What sort of advice were you after?

I don't know really!

Dh really wants to go - he says it's supposed to be really nice, clean, polite etc etc. I've got reservations - probably about the weather as much as anything, I've heard that it's quite rainy, and for the price that the ferry costs, are we better staying in the UK? Talk me into it

It's just like Norfolk.

Only nicer? (No offence to anyone who lives in Norfolk, it's just we went to the Norfolk coast a couple of years ago and had two weeks of rain )

We are off\to Holland in May and are really looking forward to it. We went a couple of years ago when DD1 was still a baby and we now have another baby. We find it absolutely lovely - the driving is easy, the people are friendly and there is plenty to do. We did consider using the ferry from harwich this time but have decided to go from Dover again (we live in the south east) and drive up through France and Belgium - which gives us the excuse of staying in Bruges on the way. Weatherwise it is nice - we have never had bad weathe there but I like it as we don;t need to worry too much about sunburn - athough can't say that we are beach lovers anyway, despite living on an island! Go - you'll love it - for the experience if not the holiday you really wanted! (depends what sort of holiday you really prefer!) We are already planning where to go when our two are older!

we had a large family holiday in summer, by the coast in holland. it was culturally interesting but the weather was really unhelpful. it was freezing and wet a lot of the time, and the wind on the beaches was tremendous. great for cycling, sight seeing, friendliness.

Weather wise the same, not that far away from each Norfolk and just as flat! However, you dh is right re the atmosphere.

We had a lovely camping holiday in Holland. We went on the Seacat outward bound in the summer holidays which was very crowded but quick. We swapped to the ferry on the way back just by arriving a bit earlier which was a longer journey but smoother/less crowded with upgrade with free meals and cabin/shower en-suite so dh & dcs could sleep.
