Please, experienced campers, tell me your favourite campsites within an hour's drive of Swindon (the sort of campsite where it's a mahoosive great field and a shower block, not the sort with a snooker room and glamorous granny contests).

Thank you!

Hi Misshardbroom - I can't help with the name of a campsite but we tend to pick Camping & Caravanning Club sites if we are going somewhere new (we even joined the club last year - the shame I felt at least 50! )

All the sites we have been have been clean and well cared for - and most have a fab toilet block, lots of hot water and a shop .

Doesn't exactly fit the criteria but look at Warren Farm at Brean Down, (various reviews online available), there is a play barn but that can be useful in bad weather, but mainly the location is fantastic, we have done at least a long weekend at least once a year since 1996 and even loved it BC (before children) and probablly will AC as well!

thanks for ideas. Bumping for more, please!

Britchcombe farm at Uffington it has a few big fields so you get to pick your pitch....there are a couple of showers... no shower block, but you can have campfires, the owner sells bags of logs.

Nooooo. Britchcombe farm is a SECRET!! We take it over with all our friends (over 50 of us) and have a fantastic time.

There are some new Portacabin showers now as well!

Savernake forest, just on the edge of Marlborough is lovely and very close to you.
