Rynys campsite in snowdonia

This is useful.

We normally only camp for a weekend at the most but with no bonus this year (and the risk of redundancy) I think we'll be dusting off the tent for a whole week

I have lots of favourites, but my north of England one would probably be Wasdale Head. No cars on the grass, surrounded by trees and streams for climbing and damming. Very peaceful and understated, not many facilities.

We also like Coniston Hall in the Lakes, right on the lake, good for watersports, and good for small children to play by the lake.

And Side farm at Patterdale, again it's right by the lake with little beaches.

DP's favourite is in the far north of Scotland at Achmelvich, right on a sandy beach, good for watersports.

We are going to try the orchards this year. 1/2 hour from my office!!

We also go waxham sands for the location and seals

I also fancy trying near london

I can send DH and the kids to get set up on a friday eve, and I can arrive after work

I love the Langdale National Trust Campsite. (their other ones in the lakes seem good too) Stunning views, walks from the door, pubs nearby - useful as the decent weather can't always be booked in the Lakes!

We were up in Langdale last Easter and it snowed!! Not for the faint hearted but v. gorgeous.

Fisherground
Conway camping and touring park

are also favourites.

Can I bump this?! Ta!

oregonianabroad · 14/03/2009 22:04

bumping for more northern recommendations -- lakes or dales, anyone???

Lastyearsmodel · 14/03/2009 22:20

Anyone mentioned Fisherground in the Lakes? Campfires, adventure playground, ponds with rafts, good pubs nearby and their own stop on the Eskdale miniature railway. Bliss. Reached via the single-track steep Wrynose Pass - not for the faint-hearted driver. But there is a long way round.
