Travel cot for toddler

Ok, bear with me as I realise it's the wrong time of year for this.

DD is getting a travel cot for Christmas - she's only 8 weeks old so she won't mind. She also won't mind that the cot is actually going to be used by her big brother...

Camping next summer: DS will be 2 yrs old. I'm very keen to keep him in a travel cot so I can pen him down, but he'll have grown out of his Mothercare one. So I'm looking for a travel cot that's suitable from 2yrs onwards.

I've searched MN and people have been recommending the Nomad ones, but they seem very expensive. I also wonder if it's quite cold for the child as it rests on the floor.

I was wondering about the BabyDan travel cot, as this looks as though it might be sturdy enough to resist an active toddler?

Any advice will be very gratefully received.

Travel cots aren't recommended for children over 2 as they could potentially tip the cot over. However, have you thought about a readybed?

I have a Nomad one and would say it's worth the money. You can get an inflatable mattress and also a sleeping bag to put inside it, so I've never worried about the cold. My ds is 2.8 and I can see us still using it for ages yet, whereas the proper travel cot my mum has is useless now as he's got too long and too able for it. He also loves his little tent, plays in it during the day too!!

Thanks - I had considered a readybed, but it looks as though he'd be able to climb out of it, which I was hoping to avoid.

Perhaps a Nomad is the way to go as I see they are suitable up to four years. Maybe there's one on ebay
