We're going camping at the weekend I need to pack, I've never taken my dd's camping before, I'm worried I will forget essential items. Please help?

So far we've got
2 double lilo's
4 sleeping bags
1 ring cooker
kettle
frying pan
plates/ cutlery/ cups
washing up liq
washing powder
a storage thing for food
a table
chairs
6 man tent
floor sheet
wind up torch and a mag light and a lantern
2 cool boxes ice packs and picnic cool bag plus small cool bag

What else? What clothing should we take what with the weather being a pita?

Also a bit worried about dd2 being able to get out of the tent in the middle of the night, I think we need to buy a padlock to keep her in and other people out during the day?

Thanks will add all that to my list, how do i stop dd2 (aged almost 3) from escaping after I've gone to sleep?

I'm a really deep sleeper but dp is a light one so he should hear her. The tent has 2 bedroom compartments, wasn't planning on sleeping with dd's.

Dont forget a picnic rug to put under your air beds. A must at night time. ALso a dust pan and brush for the tent.

I've never had a problem with leaving the tent in the day - campers tend to respect other campers, plus - they don't know if you are in there or not.

is the tent quite high? can you do the zip up to the top so your DD can't reach it? we have a 6man tent, (3 + 3) but we all sleep in one compartment - me, DH, DS1 (age 3) and DS2 (now 12wks) how old is DC1? can they sleep next to the zip?

dd1 is 9 so can sleep the side nearest to the door, good idea.

Good idea about something to go under the air beds too.

Tent is new so no idea where the zip goes from or to.

god yes a dustpan and brush! Once we stayed on this site with sandy gravelly pitches and we didn't have one!

I would say head torches. They make doing anything in the dark, including late night loo visits, so much easier because you have both hands free and the light is always aimed where you are looking.

I'm very predictable on these threads...bucket with a lid for night-time wees (cheap Mothercare nappy bucket will do). For the kids, obviously - I would never wee in a bucket at night to avoid a walk across a damp field in the dark, no sir-ee, not me.

Right I've packed everything except food and clothes.

washing up bowl (with liquid, tea towels, dishcloth, sponges)

a thing with pegs attached plus normal pegs)
Playdough and crayons and paper, quiz books, pushchair)
potty
wipes nappies and medicines
cookery stuff
re-sealable bags, bin bags
wind up torches, mag light
rain coats
tent and sleeping stuff
table
shelves (fold up ones)

need to remember fold up chairs
travel bbq

what else is essential?

Depends what you're cooking but I also always pack -
a small sharp knife
a small roasting tin to keep cooked food hot whilst I'm cooking/dishing other stuff up (never enough room otherwise)
tin foil
china mug as I hate a cup of tea out of a plastic picnic beaker
to eat-pasta with everything

Yep packed the mallet just waiting for dd2 to go to sleep then I'll get on with packing our clothes then my sister is picking dd2 up while i go food shopping (got to get stuff for dd1's birthday party tomorrow and dry/ tinned stuff/ pop beer etc for the holiday plus pick up meat from butchers and travel bbq from argos it's going to be a fly by asfternoon, need to do it all by 5.30pm when dd's will come home (dd1 has no idea we're going on holiday after her party she thinks we're going on tuesday!)

corkscrew/bottle opener/tinopener

I'm going to take 2 extra fleece blankets for dd's plus their sleeping bags plus a smaller blanket so dd2 can nap in the pushchair, must remember dummy!

I'm struggling to motivate myself to move..........help!

Just adding this to the list of threads I'm on as very useful - lots there I wouldn't have thought of so thanks for starting this LMGs. I wondered if you'd gone as haven't seen you on msn and remembered you mentioned camping at some point - hope you're having a great time, we're off a week on Monday and can't wait (although I'm a little worried how baby will be, just hope he calms down with the screaming!)
