I’ve just ordered this tent https://www.campingworld.co.uk/en/gb/Outwell-Hornet-5-Air-Tent-2026-Campaign-Special/m-47035.aspx

I went to see it instore and it seems like a good size (6m x 3.2m). I have no experience of camping but wanted something big enough for family holidays (2 young children) but not so large as to be ridiculous at Glastonbury with just DH.

I’m hoping experienced campers can tell me this is a good tent?! Especially at the £470 down from £1,000 price

Looks a pretty decent option and it's a good price.

There's no such thing as the perfect tent. They all offer different things. That's how you end up with five of them!

Outwell is a solid brand. Airbeams are easy to put up. The downside is they are heavy. Will you have a trolley for Glastonbury?

In airbeam term this isn't as weighty as many. 3000HH is decent waterproofing. Again, some will be higher which brings some benefits (but 3000 is enough for most conditions) hut also adds to the weight.

The design is nice with the porch for cooking.

Thank you! We’re going to get one of those trollies that fold up and can carry the weight.

Hope you enjoy it. If you can pick up a footprint to go with it for a reasonable price its well worth it.

It's just a ground sheet cut to the exact shape of the tent but it means you can see exactly where it will fit on a pitch. It also keeps the built in ground sheet clean so easier for rolling it up.

My other top camping tips:

  • when putting it away, folding in a width a bit narrower than the bag towards the airbeam valve. Then roll towards the doors which should be fully open.
  • always do a practice roll. You never get it in the bag first time so once you have it folded width ways, just roll it any old way lengthways. It will be massive. Unroll and then do it tightly - will halved in size.
  • pegs should go in at a 45 degree angle. Ones that are in the tent are always rubbish. Get rock pegs (aldi usually do them on a special at beginning of summer for about a fiver)
  • if it has storm straps (the big flat guy lines) they make a horrible noise in the wind. Put a twist in them and they won't.

We have the predecessor to this tent. It looks exactly the same but has a different name (it’s still made by Outwell). It’s OK. I prefer poles. It is a good size force family tent in the summer, but a bit big and chilly unless it’s a really warm day (I am happy to camp in the winter, but in a smaller tent).

When you saw it in store did you see one packed up ? They are huge, and heavy. I don’t think ours would fit in a festival trolley.
