Tips needed on how to keep a tent cool during hot Italian nights

We're off to France and Italy during August camping in our own tent. Any tips on things I could do/take to keep the temperature down within the tent at night as my kids are not good at sleeping when hot.

We always take little handheld fans which help a bit - you can get slightly larger ones that run on batteries too or if you'll have EHU take an electric fan. Has your tent got mesh for the doors/windows? If so I'd use them as much as possible to keep the air moving round through the tent.

No ideas but thought I'd share that once we camped in Italy and an unknown creature came and got in under the flysheet and ate all our things..

In my mind, it was a strange, mediterranean badger.

I absolutely froze camping on August nights in Italy. Depending on where you're going, take stuff for cool nights. We had 3 thunderstorms in our first 2 nights there and had to resort to borrowing blankets and sleeping in cardboard boxes. this was pre-children.
