What to cook on?

Previously when camping I’ve used a trangia, which worked well, or an individual gas burner, which was quite unstable. It was one of those ones where the burner unit fits directly on top of the gas canister. I don’t own either any more.

Now planning a camping trip with a child, any recommendations? Get a trangia or a double burner unit which looks more stable.

If you are going electric hook up I highly recommend the Tower multi cooker (think we got ours from B&M). So easy to make cooked breakfast or one pot dinners in. We have a gas canister burner but never use it now.

Yes go for an electric hook up, we take our instant pot which is grill, oven air fryer etc And then have a plug in 2 ring hob, much less faff and space in the car than burner stove and gas bottles

We got the cadac safari chef.
Not cheap, but really versatile bit of kit with multiple ways of cooking, and very stable. Looking on ebay for a bargain could be an option.

Too late - no electric hook up! I’ve never camped with one so didn’t think we’d need a pitch with one.

What do you want to cook?

IMO you can't beat Coleman petrol stoves, either a single burner like a "sportster" if you're hiking, or the 2 burner if you're not. They run on unleaded petrol, so no issues with getting the right type of gas in the right cartridge.

We have one of the "aerosol can" types, which are very stable but I think work out quite expensive. I'd go for a double burner that connects to a small gas bottle.

We never have hook up as I hate having to be close to other people 😂

Probably porridge or similar for breakfast, plus boiling some water. Pasta or rice or hot dogs/sausages. I need to work out the details though as one veggie, one not.

So I’m thinking something that can cook two things simultaneously, whether that’s two rings or one on top of
anotber.

Not backpacking, we will have a car with us but it isn’t allowed onto the campsite itself, parking by the entrance.

Trangia stove (I have a campervan with a two ring stove but I'll never part with Trangia!) and a Ridgemonkey :D My friend has a two ring Campingaz stove and this works really well for her. Are you able to precook some meals at home, and then freeze into portions? I do this for our camping trips. The frozen foods double up as ice packs :)
