Camping with kids in heat

Our family is planning to go car/tent camping at a local state park this weekend, with some hiking and swimming planned. We have two kids ~10 years old. The high temperature for Saturday is 90 and humid. While we could struggle through, I'm concerned that nobody is going to have fun and we're just creating bad memories. Am I overthinking this?

I was camping in the heat a couple of weeks ago and it dropped off nicely at night, it was almost chilly! whereabouts are you going?

It’ll be fine. If the site is safe, you and the kids can sleep outside the tent. If you want to be in the tent, lift the sides and leave the flap open. Use large towels instead of sleeping bags for cover.

Sounds like you’re in the US?

When we’ve camped in hot weather in the uk, the main thing has been getting up and out fairly quickly in the morning. The tent is cool enough first thing but as soon as it heats up a bit, the tent becomes unbearable so you’ve gotta be quick! Up and ready for the day early on before it turns dreadful. Then head out somewhere cooler and shady, or to the water etc.

North American campsites I have been to have been heavily wooded / in trees / very shady. Can you pick a spot in deep shade?
