Pop up tents

Is there such a thing as a pop up tent that is as easy to put away as it is to put up?

The decathlon ones always look like a bit of a nightmare and someone mentioned that they had heard of one that was in fact easy to fold down. Any ideas?

Folding up a pop-up tent is one of those ‘iykyk’ skills. The time saved in pitching and striking is worth the time you need to spend reading the instructions and having a practice before you go. Decathlon 2 seconds are simple to strike once you know how it needs to bend. Don’t rush, and leave the zip partly undone to let the air out. Good luck!

Watch YouTube videos of how they are put away and practice in your garden until you’ve got the knack.

Everyone (ime) looks at you as if to say ‘she’ll never get that in that bag’ and are then suitably impressed once you’ve shown it who’s boss and it’s all packed away on the first attempt!

Ours is also a decathlon one.

Agree that it's a knack and you can learn it!

My tent is a Quechua pop up and it's absolutely brilliant. I practiced putting it away a couple of times before I took it camping and haven't looked back.

Great thanks all. @thingisimherewould the three person be too heavy to travel somewhere by train?

If you look at the spec on the link, it weighs 3.7kg which isn't a huge weight.

I'm not clear on whether the bag has rucksack straps in addition to the handle like mine, which make it easy to carry.

Our Decathlon used to show you how to do it instore.
But given the cluelessness of the current assistants I wouldn’t rely on it

It is easy once you get the knack and realise that it actually is OK to bend it in half at the figure of 8 stage.

N.B pop up ones are usually disc shaped and may be awkward to carry depending on what else you have.

This tent is poled and comes rolled up

Not too heavy, no.

We have a Khyam one that goes up in less than a minute and down in two.

DH has the outwell nexion 3 man, there's a knack to learn to get it back in the bag but decent tent and folds flat in a large circle.
