Following on from my quest - need to sell our beloved VW camper but I’d like to camp on the odd weekend.
im trying a tent this weekend, but also looking at an mpv such as a Citroen grand Picasso, which we need anyway, with a removable micro camper set up in the back - essentially u shape seats and a table which convert yo a bed.
anyone got this or similar?

This was on dragons dens a few years ago. Main factor for vehicle, and if you need a long wheelbase, is the length of the bed you need. I take it the people who need to seat in the mpv seats won't be camping as the kits are either or!

You also need to be careful about insurance. If the car is adapted in any way you may need to get it registered with DVLA as a campervan and also insured as such.

I car camp in my ceed estate but just use a mattress with the seats folded down. I do all cooking etc outside the car.

I prefer it to camping in a small tent as the bed is off the ground and less damp and there is less crawling around.

Camped this weekend (in a tent) - reminded myself why I vowed to never camp again about 15 years ago!
Good point re the insurance, I’ll have a look.
also looking at base vans - seems to be around £1k to insulate one and the rest can follow as and when.

My experience of micro campers is pretty poor. Not enough storage space. A bed that takes up every inch, so nowhere to change or even sit in bad weather. Usually not ventilated so you get a lot of condensation. Huge compromises, so that even making a cuppa can be frustrating!
(experience is Suziki Wagon R, a Fiat Amiga 850 and a pal with a Berlingo LWB).
By the time you have a LWB sized thing, you are in the realm of a proper campervan on cost I think.

If we had a micro camper we would take a large tent or full awning so just a place to sleep really
