Camping October Half Term

I love camping. Pre-kids I’ve camped in winter, and it was fine. DP and kids like camping, but have only been late April - early September.

I really want to extend our season and would love to go in half term. Even for a few days.
We’ve got a big bell tent, all the usual gear and would also take extra bedding/warm clothes/go to a site with electric hook up.

Am I missing anything? Does anyone else go away outside of the more normal times with kids?

I don't think cold is your issue, it's rain. Having wet kit and not having much space is just tedious. If you can book it last minute if the forecast is dry then should be fine.

Book a site with heated shower block and a cafe or pub very close for warm drinks or a crackling log fire! Some sites have fireworks and Halloween events over October half term.

oh agreed, the rain is grim when everything gets soaked inside and out!
this will definitely be a last minute think with checking the weather.
good idea for checking shower block is heated too. Thanks!

The best thing I ever took on an autumn trip with electric hook up was a small fan heater for the tent. It was a game changer

It isn’t the cold that deters me, it’s the getting dark so early as we tend to live outside rather than in the tent cooking by lantern / torch light.

Also can you dry or sit off your tent at home? The air is so damp on autumn mornings it would be hard to get it bone dry before packing up, even on a fine day.

@WinterCamper
Did you get away over the half term break?
