DHs birthday next weekend and I’d like to do something to celebrate with the kids. Being completely transparent we are not the roughing it type of family but I don’t want to spend lots of money staying at a hotel, I’d like to do something a little more rustic and fun for the kids. We are in Hertfordshire so ideally not hours away from there. Ideally some sort of hot tub, toasting marshmallows, playing in the stream. Any recs would be much appreciated 🙏🏻

Oh OP… you will be lucky to get availability with anywhere half way decent! 😆

budget?

oceanaus · 15/08/2025 15:26

I know, it’s very last minute but thought we might get lucky. Willing to splurge so not too worried about budget

What is splurge?

anyway I think given how short notice and availability will be sore…. I’d just focus on goggling and ringing around to see if any last min availability / cancellations

Othersnotsomuch · 15/08/2025 15:32

You have the impression money was a factor hence me asking

oceanaus · 15/08/2025 15:45

Sorry I meant I’d rather not spend the money at some flashy country hotel

This is odd op

give us your budget and we can throw some ideas around

no point if no idea

although as I say… this will ALL be about availability

TickyandTacky · 15/08/2025 15:48

If you're not the roughing it types, do you even have camping equipment?

I mean something like this https://www.catgillfarm.co.uk/glamping/ but not in Yorkshire!

Ah OK. Not proper camping then! Pretend camping 🤣

Enjoyable camping!

Haha I enjoy my camping! We've just come back from a beautiful week in Wales, it was very enjoyable.

Have a look at booking.com - we stayed in a yurt in Cornwall that had
a proper bed and hot tub but still fun and outdoorsy

It is different to your version

and that’s fine

Laxoverhols · 17/08/2025 18:23

I wonder if the dh will start a thread about how last minute his wife left planning his birthday treat so that zero availability! 😆

Whereabouts in Wales? I’m currently camping about 10 miles away from Tenby and it’s beautiful here. I got an electric hookup site for the first time, and as a result ended up on a site that was more than just a field with some toilets in it lol. It’s been my most enjoyable camping experience so far in fact… although expensive!

I highly recommend Masterland campsite if anyone’s looking for this area. They take tents and campervans, but they also have those little camping pods and it looks like some glamping bell tents too.
