Pointless. Where are the actual one pot recipes?

RantzNotBantz · 02/08/2025 15:17

And would you use THREE HOURS worth of gas to cook lamb?

I had to laugh at the fridge freezer that the first chef seemed to have.

Utterly ridiculous.

Why didn’t the Guardian work with some chefs who actually go camping with typical camping kit!

Honestly, just when you think the Guardian can't get any more silly.

The three hour lamb could be over the camp fire, I guess. Start it at 5pm, get drunk, eat at 8?

Although I'm reminded of fantasy author Diana Wynne Jones. She wrote a fabulous book taking the piss out of all things Tolkien/D&D & was particularly caustic about stew as the mainstay of all adventurers...

Yes, I have done spiced brisket like that.

But the whole feature is in response to a reader who says they are restricted to a one ring burner and one pan.

I must check my camping box for some lightly spiced onion relish.

I enjoy good food and good cooking when camping, and quite often take my single burner stove. We should invite the reader to come here and get some sensible answers

How absolutely ridiculous! It’s got glamping with the DFLs written all over it. Haha.

i do agree that one pot meals are the way to go but laughable to imagine cooking lamb for 3 hours on a butane cylinder one ring stove. Even on a stove hooked up to a proper canister that’s going to empty out pretty fast. My top tip is cook everything before you go, freeze it, and choose a campsite with a freezer you can use. No mess, no hassle, and you can use as much lightly flavoured onion relish as you like when doing your batch cooking.
