Any recommendations for a basic, no frills site for one night along this stretch please?…..

Municipal camping in chalons en champagne (right at the very south of you map) Standard/basic municipal camping but we got champagne by the glass for a very reasonable price when we arrived too!

I have stayed at the municipal site in Epernay before- also near the south of your map. It was pleasant enough and you can walk into the town and see all the big champagne houses.
