There are four of us (me, dh, dd(7) and dd(3)

we have mahoosive 8 man tent and we have just failed to try it out in the garden because it is too big

we got a nice big one to have space to keep stuff because we intend to use it as our main holiday, instead of a cottage, and also kind of thinking about dd1 as she is disabled and if she uses her crutches or walking frame she will need quite a bit of extra space

but it looks like a house and I wonder if we will look like eejits who bought the wrong tent when we turn up at a campsite

please come and stroke my brow and tell me it will be fine

Which one is it? i am sure it will be fine, there are alot of big tents about, i think space is always a good idea

SugaryBits · 24/05/2008 17:25

It will look tiny when you set up on the camp site! On every camp site we went to last year we had the smallest tent (6 man). We have upgraded this year to a Hartford XXL!

Ooooh I have a khyam and they are wonderful. Am sure that it's not too big it just seems it because it's a tunnel and they are so long. When you camp you will realise that most people seem to have those mahoosive domey ones with a central living area and they take up gazillions of space!

Cappuccino · 24/05/2008 19:16

I am used to a dinky 2 man

it has been a long time

We have one of these cappuccino and its fab - its great to have plenty of space and was ideal last year when we had a couple of downpours and our 2 dd's and our neighbours ds's were able to retreat to the tent and play inside. We've just booked a week away in july and getting all excited

oww i have this one 2 lol i have not took mine out yet lol going in aug i was worried to bout puting out a huge tent lol but hey there is 5 of us so i dont think a lill one would hve done us any way we would have looked funny then all triying to sleep in a 3 man tent

zisforzebra · 25/05/2008 22:47

We have one of the massive domey ones with the central living area that LazyLinePainterJane referred to. It's fantastic having a big tent, lots of room for stuff and for the children to play inside if it's raining. You won't regret it and certainly won't look like you bought the wrong one.

Hi Sugarybits - we have that tent too - tried it out for the 1st time BH weekend - it was fantastic. Ours was an older version thoug (off Ebay) so each bedroom was only a 2 man tent, would have preferred 3 man but it was still great.

I reckon you should always get a tent bigger than you think you need, after all you can always downsize if necessary but I can;t think of anything worse than being stuck in a tent thats too small.

CodGuevara · 30/05/2008 23:21

canyou stna d up in it?

snotbuster · 30/05/2008 23:29

Was looking at tent porn last night (when I should have been studying) and on some site or another read that you should always by a tent bigger by '2 persons' than you actually need. It said the person size stated by manufacturers refers to how many single sleeping bags would fit - not to how it feels to be cooped up in such a small space!
Looks great - have fun.
