Hello
Does anyone have any recommendations for campsites in France preferably near water. We don't have a car so needs to be accessible by public transport.
Ta!

How are you bringing all your camping gear?!

Generaltwat · 21/05/2025 14:44

Do you mean ready made camping OP ?
Look at Canvas/Eurocamp for ideas in the first instance
ir would be very hard to carry your own tent etc without a car.

We have a light weight tent . We camped last year and managed to fit it all into two backpacks so that's not the problem. Just where to go!

Sounds a nightmare, sorry. However check out sites near Antibes. Loads there.

We really loved the Camping Intercommunale (so like Municipale but at regional level, I guess- it's equally cheap) at Chinon, in the Loire Valley. It's right across the river Cher from a beautiful chateau. It doesn't have a pool, but you can use the massive council one next door for a pittance. Chinon has a station, and also bike hire and lots of flat cycle routes along the Loire/ out into the countryside. If you feel like being fancy there are also safari tents for hire.

La Rochelle. Plenty of campsite walking distance from the sea and city center

Bretignole or La Tranche sur Mer. No idea re transport, I’m afraid.

Isle de Re near La Rochelle - we flew to la Rochelle airport and got taxi to camp by site. We stayed in a lovely campsite right by the beach and in a static caravan.
