Ok I've just had 4 days camping with dd (10). It was my first real camping experience, and was bourne out of necessity - taking dd to Royal Windsor Show and couldn't afford a hotel, but it was fab! Obviously it was a big help that the weather was amazing, but I am thinking that seeing as I am newly single, and therefore poor, that it would be a good way of having cheaper hols with dd and ds (5).
So - the tent I borrowed for the weekend was a Decathlon Quechua - pretty big with 2 bedrooms and a living space in the middle. If I was to be looking at buying a tent for us, - is this about standard for tents or are there some better versions, without spending a fortune?
Am clueless about this all really, so sorry about vagueness!

Ooh fresh blood ! Welcome to the tent porn threads.
how much do you have to spend Bamzooki?

I saw some fab bargains at Go outdoors this weekend.

Tbh I have no idea what sort of money we are talking about for tents like this. I'm sort of hoping that the friend who lent me the tent might sell me it, but I thought I should do some research as well.
Basically as little as possible, but would need to sleep 3 minimum, and be fairly spacious as the evidence so far is that we are not the tidiest of campers. Maybe it will come with practice!
I quite liked that I could stand up in this tent - not keen on the knee grovelling lark, but I guess that ups the cost too.
I had another look at the label - as well as the Quechua name - the model is 4.2 XL, if that means anything!
How do you experienced campers deal with fresh food - keeping it I mean, or do you have to be within reach of shops all the time?

oooh cosima i want a sprayway too!

although somewhere local has ex display coleman weathermaster xl on sale under £200.... hmmm.....

vango is good (love the new nile) but do like my Khyam.

for 3 plus space you probably should look at a five man size, always, always best tod visit a store and see tents up, but a website like outdoor megastore fab for ideas.

somerset camping had an idaho that would sut, if you looked around you might get a decent price?

?

bamzooki · 12/05/2008 22:27

Thanks Peachy - that looks very good - and added bonus of door each side. The one I used was a one door affair, and I can imagine that might be a problem in some circumstances. Or am I dreaming up problems here.
I am trying not to get sucked into all the amazing variety here, but can feel the pull....

Always wondered what tent porn was - now I know!
