Camping alone with kids?

A follow up to my earlier message - do any of you go camping alone with your kids? Have you ever had any worries about safety or security - am wondering if a mummy and two small girls alone in a tent would be a magnet for perves? and you can't exactly lock a tent can you? I am thinking it might be fun to slip away with the kids for a few days over the summer while their Dad is at work - we are doing a family holiday as well but thought that we could also bugger off on our own for a bit of girly fun!

Wouldn't bother me so long as I was on a safe, well respected and secure (as it can be) site. Predators require quiet & privacy - tents are neither. You just have to fart and the people in the next tent can hear it!

I have done this a few times - me and 2 dcs. Like you I had concerns but this was all put aside when I got to the campsite - I had a quick chat with the family next door who offered to helpm put up the tent. It was all very friendly adn nice - and as doodle said - it is very eassy to hear what is going on in a campsite and you will wake up if anyone undoes the zip to their tent let alone yours!

Do a bit of research online re: family friendly campsite - but don't worry. I did and it was fine.

Only prob is when they are asleep and ypuo need the loo in the night. Either restrict your fluids or take a potty!

i have just been camping over the weekend and often take my 3 camping on my own(ages 2 4 and6). Would be lying if i said i didnt worry but i put lots of noisy things in front of doors! We have lots of fun and kids love it.

yes - i've been lots just me and the DDs. I just make sure I sleep neares the door and the peg mallet is close at hand.
and i'd recommend a potty.

Hi

I go on on my own with my 2 young sons, had not problems, and felt very safe. My luggable loo (or some sorty of potty / bucket) is great for night time! At least you don't have to drag them both over to the toilets, or worry about leaving one in the tent alone.

like NaughtyNigella I also keep the mallet near my bed! Not that I think it'd ever be needed, it just makes me feel better

we do it all the time, just pic a campsite with a playground and within walking distance of a chip shop!!

take a good book and a box of wine, the kids swill sleep well and you can actually have a lie in when camping!

I'm off with my 2 ds this Whit, weather permitting. I like the idea of loud stuff in doors and the mallet! I've picked a site with 24 hour security guard patrols - dunno if it's for the kids or me!
