Coleman octagon tents

Planning on buying a second hand tent at the end of the season.

We used to camp a lot and always had an Outwell, but a very leaky and difficult wolf lake (I think) put us off and we bought a caravan instead!

Eldest DCs will both be at uni from September, leaving me, DH and youngest DC so we want to get a tent again.

I always loved the idea of the Coleman octagon space, but wondered if they’re cold? DH wants to be sensible and get a Montana 6…

They are cold! We had one as a first tent and it was brilliant but we were always freezing at night, no matter how many layers. I upgraded to a new fancy (expensive) tent and cannot believe the difference in temperature. Nights are so much more comfortable.

I thought they might be with the high roof and not having the separate sleeping compartments.

Sensible DH may win this one….

Yes cold and draughty. But, the height, the space, the standing upness and the ability to customise is beyond compare. Great for show off fancy camping in hot weather.

Only have experience with coleman event shelters and gazebo’s and find then excellent.
I know you didn’t ask this but we (and several friends, by accident) have Montana 6 and we LOVE ours. 10 years and still going strong, though I had to re-waterproof my Birdland (bought just before the pandemic) when leaves like a sieve last summer. It was like sleeping under a tea towel 🙄 just check current outwell quality.
