Hi all. Well we're finally going on our first family camping trip for the weekend next month. We've decided on the peak district as it's half way between us and friends we'll be going with; Trouble is I have no clue where to go!

We have 2 dcs ( 3 & 19mths), and would like somewhere fairly quiet, as in just loos and showers would be fine, and preferably a no caravans type place. We have a fairly large tent and would like to be within walking distance of a nice village/town.

Any site or area recommendations greatly appreciated .

We have been to Upper Booth farm, which is lovely, but not in walking distance of a town/village. Would really recommend it though - chickens and sheep wandering around, no caravans, on Pennine Way and absolutely beautiful. How about Fieldhead in Edale? I have heard that's nice.

Edale is lovely, we stayed at coopers farm and managed to be in a field with just tents, whilst still being near the showers.

Thanks, I was thinking Edale looked quite nice. Are any of those sites near Castleton? someone recommended visiting there.

When we went to Edale we bought a day rover ticket from the tourist information office in Edale and used that on the bus and train to get around.

The train from Edale takes you to Hathersage which has the most fantastic walkers cafe right by the station. I can recommend a bacon buttie and a pint of tea as a morning pick me up.

There is also a really good bus network and we definitely got the bus from Castleton to Edale which takes you over the tops and you get to see some fantastic scenery.

We didn't use our car at all when we were there because the public transport was so good.

We'll probably visit again this summer for a weekend.
