I’m going to have to cancel the holiday aren’t I?

I have booked to go away for 2 nights tomorrow. I am driving, dd (20) and her boyfriend (19) are coming, and so is dd (6)). Last night I came down with the worst d & v I’ve ever had. I’m sad because I’ve ordered so many things (beds, sleeping bags, cooker, table, chairs etc) and feel like I have wasted it all, but we can use it all next time. We still need to do the food shop and pick up some clothes from dd (20)’s uni accommodation today, and I can’t leave the house. I’m gutted, I was so excited!!

Can you wait and see and just leave later? These things often run their course quite quickly.

Pinkdelight3 · 24/03/2024 12:45

Presumably DD can get her own clothes and do the foodshop while you rest?

Dillydollydingdong · 24/03/2024 12:47

It's a bit cold for camping anyway. Much better in the summer. By

Advent0range · 24/03/2024 13:25

Oh no! You need to be near your own toilet at the moment. Yes you will have to cancel - but you can always book again. Maybe the campsite will move your booking so you don't lose money?

MiltonNorthern · 24/03/2024 13:27

Camping in the uk this week? It will be freeeeezing. And yes you can't camp with D&V, sorry!

No way should the OP he sharing time facilities with randomers with D&V! I know there's no football 48hr done with camping but I think it's a morally useful guideline.

Sorry OP :-(

Ps: also using come down with d&v when camping once and spending an entire night in a cold spider filled toilet, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy (it was an organised trip as a teenager so had little option to getting home).

Delphina17 · 24/03/2024 13:32

You might feel better tomorrow. Could you get DD and her boyfriend to pick up the shopping?

Are you still vomiting and going to the toilet? Normally it only lasts a few hours.

Loopytiles · 24/03/2024 13:33

yes, cancel

Gravelgraze · 24/03/2024 13:34

That’s rotten luck. But realistically, if it’s viral, by the time you’ve all travelled in the close confines of the car the others are going to have it as well. I hope the campsite will be understanding and let you postpone.

Hope you feel better soon.

I was on a DofE expedition last night, it was flipping freezing 😂 Don't do it, rebook for May half term or summer !

Geebray · 24/03/2024 16:28

Have you ever camped before, OP? It is very cold at night atm. Take this as a blessing and enjoy your camping trip later in the year.

Tomatosoupandbread · 25/03/2024 19:44

Thank you all so much for your replies. We have cancelled and re booked for May half term-like everyone has said much warmer and hopefully all the winter bugs will have died off!! I would feel HORRIBLE if I gave this to anyone else-at home I can clean and sanitise properly but not elsewhere. Thankfully I’m the only one in the house to catch it, so will spend tomorrow putting all the camping gear away again 😂. At least we have another holiday to look forward to now xx

Sound like a good plan OP. Just a heads up, it will also be chilly at night in May, what type of mattresses do you have? Because air mattresses can be really cold, you need to cover them with a blanket at least. Imo.

Tomatosoupandbread · 25/03/2024 20:04

We’ve got camping beds with thermally backed mattresses to go on top, with 4 season sleeping bags and duvets. We also have a plug in fan heater to pre-warm everything before bed. I’m paranoid about getting cold!! We have two of these: https://www.campingworld.co.uk/Mobile/en/gb/Outwell-Centuple-Double-Sleep-System/m-m-25844.aspx?PartnerID=1631&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx9i03pqQhQMVIo9QBh26eQX_EAQYASABEgLDMvD_BwE&utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=UnitedKingdom

@Geebray , I am so excited 😂❤️

Oh bad luck! But perhaps better than getting ill when you are actually in a tent with shared toilets! Hope you feel better soon.

D and v lasting for 7 months would be pretty unlikely, so my money is on the OP being better by now.

Ha, yes, this popped up as a recent thread for some reason, and I didn't notice the date! Hopefully the d and v is a distant memory now.
