No pitches only mobile homes!

Argh I’m in a mood. I am trying to find a good campsite with water slides, near a town we can walk to or get a bus to in France. Preferably Vendée or further south to get the sun. I keep finding ones but then upon investigation there are no pitches, only mobile homes! Surely then it’s a holiday park not a campsite! I know it’s being a bit pernickity but when I’m trawling through reviews, maps etc and finally thinking I’ve got all the boxes ticked, to find no pitches is frustrating!! Anyone else had this? Or got a good way of searching pitch included campsites?

Not been, but somewhere like this?

Hidingfromsnacks · 07/08/2023 20:24

The link doesn’t work string bean! Do you have the campsite name?!

The Yelloh Village sites usually have tent pitches.

Chersfrozenface · 07/08/2023 20:35

I haven't been to this one but it has pitches for touring caravans, tents and campervans

I found it by going to the page below filtered for campsites with water park and zooming in on Vendee on the map. Unfortunately I couldn:t find a way of filtering just by pitches, so had to click on a site on the map and checking the details. You could do the same with the other sites marked.

It was the one near Bergerac - Pomport Beach @Hidingfromsnacks
About 2km from a nearby village (not exactly a town though!).

Or Les Rivages is within walking distance of Millau. Not been there either although it's one we've looked at.

Hidingfromsnacks · 10/08/2023 17:57

Thanks everyone, this is helpful. Les Rivages looks lovely. I think I’ll want a car wherever I go. Need to work on moving the campervan more efficiently!

There's a great group on Facebook called "Camping in France with kids". A high proportion of proper campers there

We have stayed at camping Beach Garden, and it’s sister site Charlemagne, - there are 3 campsites that you can use all facilities of, and all walkable to Marseillan Plage. We preferred Charlemagne as quieter and only have to cross road to beach (and nearer main shops) but the others have a bit more for kids.

Also like the Yelloh site at Vias plage, again walkable into town and on the beach.

love Port Grimaud area as the town is a Little Venice, beaches idyllic, and you take the boat taxi to St Tropez or bus to Monaco.

also had a lovely small site at Palmyre (tiny pool, no slides) in the Charente, lovely town with bars and restaurants and the zoo also walkable, and the dunes and beach are just a few hundred yards away.

search4sites is great for Motorhomers, and we use the ACSI app as all sites list distance to beach/shopping etc.

I agree but from a different angle - when people say they've "been camping" but stayed in a mobile home /holiday park.

Or even taken a.motorhome. that isn't camping!!!

AcclimDD · 12/08/2023 23:23

Try this one OP:

en.amiaux.fr/

It's in saint- de-mont, vendee & takes tents.

AcclimDD · 12/08/2023 23:25

Forgot to say, I have stayed here ( in a mobile home though) and it was very pleasant Smile

SoRad · 13/08/2023 08:45

Huttopia normally have pitches

lavenderlou · 14/08/2023 08:39

Sites managed by Castels, Yelloh, Huttopia all have pitches. If you look at the Siblu site too, you can select "campings" from the main menu which filters out the sites which don't have pitches. I have recently been to La Garangeoire in the Vendee. It's a Castels site, has lots of pitches and a couple of water slides. There were also two Yelloh sites in the area.

Try https://www.chadotel.com/camping-loceano-dor-jard-sur-mer/# Right on the doorstep of a lovely town, walking distance of a Super U and a nice beach.
