How cold am I going to be?

We are camping in the Dordogne region in mid August. I've recently heard some horror stories of how cold it can get at night, with reports of needing to wear hats, gloves etc. I'm travelling with two small children so would appreciate anyone who has done this recently and can help guide me with what to pack. Thanks in advance!

It's no colder than camping in the UK at night in the summer you won't need a hat 🤣

Not cold at all.

I am always cold overnight when we camp, so I bring thin layers like leggings and long-sleeved running tops to wear under my pj's. I usually put the layer on under my clothes a couple of hours before bedding down, so the warmth has built up and I don't have to fully strip off before bed. I have never needed a hat but will bring a hoody instead of normal pj top. A thin fleece blanket under you, eg between air bed and sleeping bag, adds warmth too

We've never camped anywhere hot though so might not be needed!

I can get cold at night camping. I go in for layers and hot water bottles.

I get cold. Currently sitting in a fluffy hoodie after arriving back from camping in a variety of regions in France. Even in the Pas-de-Calais, which has had a miserable summer so far, I've not needed anything other than short PJs and a sleeping bag. I've found it's normally low teens in the small hours in mid August but snuggled in a sleeping bag that is perfectly fine. No need for gloves and hats! Only times I'd consider taking these in summer is for the Alps ski resorts where sometimes I've camped it's been 28C in the day and then we've had a frost overnight!

What sort of mattress / bed will you have? Air mattresses get really cold , so a insulating under the mattress and on top is a good idea
