Tent I can't put up singlehanded

Hi there

Looking for recommendations for a lightweight tent that I can put alone for myself and 4 children aged 9 and under.

I attend on being as minimalist as possible so really just a sleeping area.

Many thanks

No reason why 6 year olds upwards can't help put up a tent. Taking 36 beavers and cubs camping next weekend and they're going to be putting up 4 x 8-man tents and a 5-man tent between them, with some parental supervision!

It's surprising how much space even small children take up, especially with their bags and other kit they need so you'll need a 6-man tent at least really.

Remember, the men they use to size tents are fifth percentile, if that.

And they all sleep on their sides.

Ok, a tent that you can put up singlehanded is a bell tent. A 4 metre cotton canvas or poly-cotton tent with a single pole will be perfectly manageable by one person, although I would have thought the 9yr old would be able to help with putting up most tents.

The Berghaus air tents are easy enough to put up single handed. I had the 4 man version but you might want to go for the 6 man. It does have a living area but I find that quite useful, especially if the weather is crap as it keeps the damp stuff out of the sleeping area.

Also, pyramid tents are easy to erect so ideal for the single camper.

Have you looked at self inflating tents, they might suit your needs?

Decathlon do pop up tents, some of them tall enough to stand up in.

So long as one of the DC can hold a single pole then you can put up a large 6 man tent.

It's all about preparing the poles in the ground and then sort of physics in being able to stand at one end and pull it all up to standing

You sometimes just need one DC to hold a pole for a minute whilst you mallet in the first couple of guy ropes to keep the guest end up

The rest not guest

My mum had the Coleman pop up tent that she managed to put up by herself whilst having bone cancer but not knowing about it!

I had a vango 5/6 man tent with poles that I have put up by myself.. I'm 5'2'

The kids have helped, but sometimes more of a hindrance 🤣

Or an air tent is pretty easy.. but they are heavy!

It was a vango 600

Getting the poles in and getting them in the boys were the parts I made my kids help with. They just have to hold it in place whilst you put the other end in. 3 poles in total.. the rest I did myself

Any tunnel tent you should be able to do on your own or with minimal help - look for the Cross Camping method on YouTube.
