Camping kitchen units

We are looking to get better kitted out for camping trips. We have a 6 person tent with large living room space and front door/side that can be opened out on poles. For cooking we have a double ring gas burner with grill.

Would like to get a camping kitchen unit but unsure if there's any point getting one of the ones you actually put the gas cooker on, as you can't use the cooker in the tent? And it wouldn't make sense to carry the whole thing out of the tent for cooking.

Would love to know how others use their camping kitchen units!

Usually see people with their kitchen area under a separate gazebo, OP. I use just a table and put the stored items underneath in a sealed box and a poncho over the whole lot when not in use/raining.

Yes - I was wondering if you needed a gazebo to make the kitchen units worthwhile. At the moment we're not doing enough nights away to make it worth getting a gazebo. Thanks!

We used to carry the kitchen unit in and out of the tent, which was a faff and meant that you couldn't store much in the cupboards. It was also tricky cooking outside when it was raining.

Three years ago, we got a tarp to make a separate cooking/sitting area next to the tent, and it's been great! We got a Unigear one from Amazon, which is in a tiny bag (we have a v small car) - and because it's such a big tarp, we can put it up in various ways depending on what we need. I just leave the kitchen unit under the tarp the whole time, and the cover enables me to cook when it's wet or windy. The only problem has been when we were camping in the Peak District and a torrential storm overnight meant that we woke up to a attended tarp and giant puddles water! But even then, it was easy enough to re-erect the poles and tighten the guy lines.

Our tent has a porch where we keep the kitchen unit. We do move it away from the tent while cooking. Food is kept separately in a closed box inside the tent (to avoid insects/bigger pests!)
