We're thinking about getting some camping equipment for the summer (travelling in the UK, probably in the south). Argos have this offer on at the moment - I'd be very grateful if anyone who knows something about camping could have a look at it and tell me if there are any obvious drawbacks to it.

(I know we'll also need to get stove, kitchen stuff, pump and so on.)

me too! - I'll help erect tents for a glass of wine - and if it's red it doesn't even need chilling of course

although all campers will help each other, I always offer new arrivals a nice cup of tea.

policywonk · 16/02/2008 17:23

Awww, you two sound lovely

I am deffo going to stalk you.

OP posts:
Blandmum · 16/02/2008 17:23

me too.

Last time we went camping there was a smashing family opposite who were having no luck with putting their tent up. Once ours was up, dh put theirs up for them!

I can put up our tent on my own in 30 mins [smug bitch emoticon]

Tunnel tents are easier than the geodesics IMHO

Lucycat · 16/02/2008 17:29

I could do the Colorado on my own but Lakey is a heavy beast - I can't even lift her out of the car!

feel free to stalk policywonk! - I did visit a campsite a couple of years ago where the martianbishops were residing, saw the tent, but alas noone was at home and I wasn't brave enough to leave a 'lucycat woz 'ere' note

Blandmum · 16/02/2008 17:30

and more is the pity!

The coloerado is a great tent. I don't know why they stopped making it. I don't like the layout of the indiana so much

Lucycat · 16/02/2008 17:32

They do the Colorado 5 but not the 8....

Cappuccino · 16/02/2008 17:33

i am going to buy that khyam

I might do it tonight

Blandmum · 16/02/2008 17:35

I know, but the 5 is too small for us.

My colorado is still ok (at least I think it is, we've had a camping free year)

But I fonly look forward to shopping for a new tent at some point in the future, and the Outwell catalogue doesn't fulfil my camping porn needs atm!

Watch ouot girls, this camping this becomes addictive!

Lucycat · 16/02/2008 17:38

Lucycat · 16/02/2008 17:48

Blandmum · 16/02/2008 17:53

Lucycat · 16/02/2008 17:56

Blandmum · 16/02/2008 18:06

Scary. It would be like going back into the womb, or a big pink blancmange!

You'd never lose it on the site though, would you?

please everyone hurry around and buoy me up

this is a momentous time

hercules1 · 16/02/2008 18:29

Ooh kyam is a good brand. (better than argos).

Lots of people find they buy more than one tent to use at different times and places (we did).
Good luck. Just need some warm weather now!

Blandmum · 16/02/2008 18:32

V
that is a serious tent!

Well done!!!!

Whitsun and you'll have a nice time

Cappuccino · 16/02/2008 18:35

what does serious mean?

I am beyond nervous

hercules1 · 16/02/2008 18:38

A few tips for you.
Put picnic blankets under your blow up mattresses - really makes a difference with the cold ground.

Buy a battery operated pump for mattresses - otherwise you'll spend hours pumping up.

Take wellies if camping in a field no matter what the weather - morning dew is not nice on shoes and trouser bottoms if grass isnt really short.

Pracise putting up the tent at home first so you dont look a knob on the campsite.

Join ukcampsite forum - great for advice about camping, sites etc.

hercules1 · 16/02/2008 18:39

Oh and we take a huge duvet with us and various sleeping bags to keep warm and thermal socks.

Blandmum · 16/02/2008 18:39

Good, long lasting, well put together,

Serious!

Indulation under as well as over you vital to keeping warm

Bucket with a lid!

Cappuccino · 16/02/2008 18:40

oh absolutely bucket with lid

I do not fancy carrying a disabled 7 year old to a loo in the dark
