Never been to S of France. Going this summer hurrah - whats the best camp sites.

Ive got the canvas, keycamp, Euro camp brochures.

Anyone been to any of the sites and loved them. DS twins will be 9 so would like a nice pool etc for them. But also want to be in a good location to visit places like Port Grimaud, St Tropez, St Raphael etc.

(We're going to fly to Nice and then hire a car.)

Probably a big site rather than a quiet small one to keep DS occupied.

any advice.

We've been to:
Douce Quietude , St Raphael
La Baume, Frejus
Les Pecheurs, Roquebrune-sur-Argents
Les Tournels, St Tropez

Douce Quietude a bugger to find, up at the back of St Raphael, have to negotiate many roundabouts which all look the same. Nevertheless it was lovely, with a very good restaurant.If I remember, it was one of those sites where you have to wear their plastic bracelet. Went with Canvas - great emplacement.

Les Tournels on a steep slope, kinda terraced, not overlooked tho'. Restaurant a bit disappointing. A supermarket (Spar, as I remember) and a big shed selling lovely fresh veggies, just outside the gate. Note from the brochures they have got a flash new swimming pool. One advantage is if you go to the beach, you're going with the traffic going home, not trying to cross the stream.

La Baume (some time ago, trying to remember), was fine. Two pool complexes, one at the top and one at the bottom. That was with Eurocamp. Emplacement private and shady.

Pecheurs was with Eurocamp. A bit too cheek-by-jowl with other happy campers for my liking. At first thought our neighbours had parked in our emplacement! Also, swimming pool on the small side for the amount of people using it. By the end of the afternoon it was like swimming in soup (warm and opaque!). Best thing was being able to walk to the village of Roquebrune - very picturesque and some nice restaurants.

Your nearest beach for Pecheurs/Douce Quietude/La Baume is Frejus. Plenty parking -a small fee to pay.

Be aware that if you're going in the height of summer, the roads are chocablock. It will take you a while to go anywhere. You can get the train from St Raphael to Nice, etc - it goes right along the coast. Parking in a multistorey at the station.

Bear in mind it'll be hot hot hot if in high summer. You might want to consider aircon if planning to be in a mobile.

Have been trying to organise ours tonight with Canvas and some sites are booked up so no longer available. (We're not going to France this year).

Have booked flights so no going back now!

port grimaud def best with canvas (domaine des niaides campsite) Done all the ones along that strip with canvas.

We fly in to Toulon, very quick with car hire along to St tropez area.

Did port grimaud 5 times now, also tried the canadel one with all the slides, waterpark thingy, but emplacements were far too shady for my liking. great if you need the shade for babies though.

We have always stayed in the century mobile, got everything you want. Did the tenting bit with canvas as a child, but we save our tenting holidays now to this country as its nice to have the extra luxuries of a mobile.

Last year we went the week before half term in May and fantastic prices mobile about 230 quid for 8 nights, car hire for 5 people aircon about 220 and all flights for five of us 260. A very reasonable holiday, the half term week would have cost thousands so bear that in mind.

That area of France is expensive though, st tropez, a beer, coffee and 3 cokes 27 euros (little cafe looking out on to the yachts) and food generally dearer than other parts of France.

The domaine des naiades camp is a walk down the hilll to the beach about 10 mins and the camp itself quite hilly,
